PredictSpring is now the product lineage behind Salesforce Retail Cloud and the current Point of Sale offering. The deal gave Salesforce a direct store-and-checkout layer to connect with Commerce Cloud, Service Cloud, Order Management, Loyalty and Customer 360 data.
The acquisition is complete—not pending
Salesforce’s original announcement described a definitive agreement and expected closing in its fiscal third quarter. An editor’s note on that announcement now records the precise completion date: September 12, 2024. Salesforce did not disclose the purchase price and said the transaction would not change its then-current financial guidance. Salesforce’s announcement and closing note are the primary record.

That timing matters for anyone evaluating Salesforce today. The relevant question in 2026 is not whether Salesforce will add PredictSpring to Commerce Cloud, but how the acquired technology has become its retail POS platform and whether that platform fits a particular store operation.

What Salesforce acquired
PredictSpring was a cloud-native retail POS vendor focused on mobile and in-store selling. Its software was designed for associates using tablets or other mobile devices, rather than only fixed checkout counters. The product covered:
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with most POS systems except those requiring proprietary hardware integrations or direct app-level integration
- No Software Needed: No need to download or install any software or apps with this sleek handheld 3-in-1 wireless, Bluetooth, and USB scanner with vibration capabilities to help in noisy environments.
- Next Gen Smart Charging Stand: One base that can do it all. Wireless Transmission from stand to scanner. Holds scanner. Charges scanner's built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery via lighting connectors
- Scan Modes: Connect to Mac or Windows computers, Android or Apple mobile devices, and POS systems to start scanning barcodes with one of the 3 available modes - manual, continuous, and auto sense
- Code Compatibility: Scan 1D barcodes including UPC, EAN, Code128, Code39, Code11, Codabar, and many others; Scan 2D barcodes including PDF417, Aztec code, Data Matrix, QR Code, Micro PDF, Interleaved, and others. Doesn't work with Maxicode
- Mobile point of sale and checkout
- Clienteling and assisted selling
- Endless aisle selling for products not stocked in a store
- Store fulfillment and pickup workflows
- Store operations
- Omnichannel transactions, inventory visibility and order visibility
PredictSpring was already a Salesforce ecosystem partner, with integrations involving Commerce Cloud and Service Cloud before the acquisition. Its own pre-acquisition materials also described connections to Order Management and Salesforce CRM. That history makes the transaction a vertical integration of an established partner, rather than Salesforce starting a POS effort from scratch. PredictSpring’s investor page reported $32 million in total funding, including an $11.4 million Series A and a $16 million Series B, from investors including Salesforce Ventures, Felicis, Novel TMT and Beanstalk Ventures. Those financing figures are company-reported. PredictSpring’s investor information provides the attribution.
Why a POS company mattered to Salesforce
Salesforce already had substantial digital-commerce, CRM, marketing, service, loyalty and order-management capabilities. The strategic gap was the physical store: the checkout, sales-floor associate and store-fulfillment processes where customers and inventory become transactions.
Salesforce’s stated objective was a unified commerce platform spanning digital and physical channels. In practical terms, that means connecting:

This is broader than simply adding a checkout feature to Commerce Cloud. POS puts Salesforce workflows and customer context in the store, while Commerce Cloud and Order Management coordinate online demand, inventory and fulfillment. Salesforce explains the acquisition strategy in its transaction announcement.
What PredictSpring added to Commerce Cloud
Before the acquisition, PredictSpring described several Commerce Cloud-connected use cases. Because these capabilities come from the vendor’s own materials, they should be read as product claims rather than independent performance validation.
| Capability | Retail use |
|---|---|
| Real-time customer and cart synchronization | Associates can work with customer and cart context across channels. |
| Find-in-store and ship-to-store | Use store inventory and fulfillment options to complete a sale. |
| BOPIS and BORIS | Support buy-online-pick-up-in-store and buy-online-return-in-store flows. |
| Endless aisle | Sell items that are unavailable on the sales floor. |
| Mixed carts | Combine online and in-store products in one transaction. |
| Associate access to customer history | Use purchase and profile information for assisted selling and service. |
| Cross-channel order and return visibility | Give stores context for orders originating online or elsewhere. |
PredictSpring’s description of these integrations is available at its Salesforce POS page.

PredictSpring, Retail Cloud and Point of Sale: the name changes
Readers will encounter several names for the same acquired product lineage:
- PredictSpring: the original company and product name.
- Retail Cloud: Salesforce’s post-acquisition branding.
- Point of Sale: the current name used prominently in Salesforce Help and developer documentation.
- Modern POS: an older term that may still appear in legacy material.
These labels do not generally represent three unrelated Salesforce products. Salesforce says PredictSpring is the legacy name, with enhancements added since the acquisition. Documentation can still contain older names, API terminology and references to the transition. See Salesforce’s Point of Sale overview and the current Retail Cloud POS page.
What Salesforce Point of Sale offers now
Salesforce describes the current product as a mobile-first POS and omnichannel platform that connects store operations with online commerce systems.

The marketing page additionally highlights mixed carts, integrations with Commerce, Order Management, Loyalty and Service, a composable UI, API-first microservices and AI-assisted voice search and recommendations. Claims such as faster setup, higher conversion or lower training costs are Salesforce marketing claims, not independently established outcomes. Salesforce lists Adyen, Verifone Flex and Elavon integrations, but availability depends on geography and certification.
Hardware, payments and store infrastructure
Salesforce documentation refers to certified terminals, iPads and stands, barcode scanners, printers, cash drawers and payment terminals. Documented payment integrations include Adyen, Verifone and Elavon. Hardware references are not a promise of universal compatibility. A retailer must verify the exact device model, operating-system version, payment-terminal certification, country rules, fiscalization requirements, printer and cash-drawer support, network design and offline-payment behavior. The relevant setup material is in Salesforce’s hardware configuration guidance and getting-started documentation.

Support, APIs and operational caveats
Support transition
Salesforce documentation says PredictSpring customer support on Zendesk retired in February 2026. Salesforce Help is now the support home for Point of Sale, and releases occur more frequently than three times per year. A support entitlement still depends on the customer’s contract. Salesforce’s 2026 POS support-plan document identifies a revenue-blocking issue as priority P0 with a target initial response time of 15 minutes, 24×7; that is a plan entitlement, not a universal guarantee. See the POS support-plan terms.

API limits and legacy terminology
The API guide documents OAuth authentication, merchant API keys, PredictSpring-specific headers and separate staging and production endpoints. It lists a production limit of 10 requests per second and 100,000 requests per month, plus a staging limit of 10,000 requests per month. These are documentation-specific limits and should be confirmed against the customer’s contract or Salesforce support guidance before implementation. The guide continues to use PredictSpring-branded endpoints and headers: Retail Cloud API developer guide.
Data-center and release checks
Salesforce published documentation on April 3, 2026 covering Point-of-Sale instance data-center locations. Buyers should confirm the applicable region, data-residency requirements and release cadence during procurement rather than relying on a legacy PredictSpring deployment assumption.
Who may benefit—and who should be cautious
Potential fit
- Retailers already using Salesforce Commerce, Service, Order Management, Loyalty or related products.
- Omnichannel brands needing shared customer, order and inventory context between stores and digital channels.
- Businesses that need mobile checkout, clienteling, endless aisle, BOPIS, BORIS or store fulfillment.
- Large or complex retailers able to fund enterprise implementation and integration work.
- Organizations preferring one strategic vendor for CRM, commerce, POS and order orchestration.
Reasons for caution
- Salesforce licensing, implementation partners, data models and roadmap can increase platform dependency.
- ERP, tax, fiscalization, payments, identity, inventory, fulfillment and hardware integrations still require design, testing and ongoing operations.
- A mobile-first product may not suit every store format, country, register environment or payment setup.
- Smaller merchants seeking low-cost, self-service POS may find the enterprise buying process disproportionate.
- Public pages direct buyers to Salesforce rather than publishing a standard POS price; cost depends on modules, stores, users, transaction volume, integrations, services and support.
- IDC’s 2025 assessment described the product as functional but still integrating capabilities across the broader Retail Cloud offering, and reported iOS-based mobile support without equivalent Android support at that time. Both points are time-sensitive and require a current device and product check. IDC’s assessment is the source for those observations.
Questions to answer before signing
- Which devices and operating systems are certified in each target country?
- Which payment terminals and payment methods work online and offline?
- How are offline transactions reconciled, and how are duplicate orders prevented after reconnection?
- How are tax, fiscalization and receipt rules handled in each jurisdiction?
- Can one transaction mix store inventory and online inventory?
- How are online-origin returns handled in stores?
- How are inventory conflicts resolved across stores, warehouses and e-commerce?
- What is the migration path from a legacy PredictSpring implementation?
- Which APIs, endpoints and headers are stable as branding changes?
- What support tier, response target and implementation responsibility are written into the contract?
How it compares with other buying paths
| Option | Likely buying situation |
|---|---|
| Salesforce Point of Sale | Enterprise retailers seeking the deepest alignment with Salesforce Commerce, CRM, Service, Loyalty and Order Management. |
| Shopify POS | Merchants already centered on Shopify’s commerce ecosystem; current geography, hardware and plan limits still require verification. |
| Square | Smaller businesses prioritizing straightforward setup and payments over a large enterprise suite. |
| Oracle Retail | Large retailers seeking a broad enterprise retail suite. |
| StoreConnect | A Salesforce-connected AppExchange alternative that advertises synchronization of product, price, inventory and customer data, plus offline transactions and selected payment-reader integrations. |
Feature counts alone do not decide this purchase. Payment certification, tax rules, device fleets, offline behavior, inventory architecture, implementation capacity and total Salesforce dependency usually matter more than a checklist comparison. StoreConnect information is available through its AppExchange material.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat the acquisition means for Commerce Cloud
The acquisition supplied Salesforce with a route from digital commerce into the physical store. Commerce Cloud remains the digital-commerce component, while Point of Sale extends Salesforce’s customer, order and workflow model to checkout and store operations. The practical value is highest when a retailer is prepared to implement the surrounding systems—not when it expects a POS license alone to unify ERP, payments, tax, inventory and fulfillment automatically.
