Who won Triple M’s Best of Perth burger competition?
PerthNow reported on 14 June 2024 that Ryan John Kitchen in Heathridge took the burger-category win after thousands voted. The category had received more votes than any other announced up to that point, and Soder Burger in Lesmurdie and Burger Freak in Belmont followed closely behind. The report did not publish the burger category’s exact vote total, individual counts or ballot method, so it does not establish that every Perth restaurant was entered or that a judging panel selected an overall winner. PerthNow’s 2024 report is the source for the result.
The venue was founded in 2017. At the time of the award report, Ryan John was identified as its owner and chef, and the win came with an advertising package from 92.9 Triple M.
What made Ryan John Kitchen’s burgers notable?
The Luke Special
PerthNow described the Luke Special as the restaurant’s best-selling breakfast burger. John said it was named for a tradie customer who asked for a particular combination and then returned to order it daily. The account is John’s explanation as quoted by PerthNow, rather than an independently checked transcript of the radio interview.

A loyal following and community initiative
John described the restaurant’s customers as “very, very loyal,” comparing them to Swifties. PerthNow also reported that the venue’s Buy a Burger for a Battler initiative had fed more than 5000 people by June 2024. What changed after the 2024 award?
PerthNow reported on 20 June 2025 that Ryan John Coffee and Kitchen had been sold to new owners, with the handover expected in the coming weeks. In the sale announcement, founder Ryan John said the buyers loved the business and did not want to change it, describing their intention as “Same food, same faces, same good vibes.” That statement records the plan at the time of the sale; it does not confirm that the menu, staff or atmosphere have stayed unchanged since.
