Running with Thieves exited voluntary administration in November 2023 after creditors accepted a deed of company arrangement (DOCA) proposed by Run With Us Pty Ltd. PerthNow later reported that Simm Group of Companies acquired the business in late 2023, months after the administration exit. Those were separate steps: the DOCA resolved the administration, while the subsequent acquisition was reported as an ownership change.
What happened to Running with Thieves?
The company behind the Running with Thieves business, Atari Enterprises Trading Company Pty Ltd, entered voluntary administration in August 2023. Later reporting attributed the financial difficulty to difficult trading conditions. The administration did not end with the business simply closing: creditors accepted a DOCA in November, allowing the business to leave administration.
The November 2023 administration exit
At a creditors’ meeting on 9 November 2023, creditors accepted a DOCA proposed by Run With Us Pty Ltd. The deed was signed the following day. In a statement reproduced by The Crafty Pint, the joint and several deed administrators said the proposal provided for business continuation and retention of 60 staff, approximately 98% of employees.
The administrators also said suppliers, staff and patrons had supported continued operations during administration. That statement described the business as operating on a business-as-usual basis during the process; it does not establish its trading status today.

What the reported $1.1 million means
The Crafty Pint reported that Run With Us contributed $1.1 million to the DOCA fund, along with certain assets held by the administrators. That figure is a reported contribution to the deed fund—not a stated total for the company’s liabilities, the amount recovered by creditors, or the purchase price for the later acquisition.
Who bought Running with Thieves?
PerthNow reported that Running with Thieves announced its acquisition by Simm Group of Companies in late 2023, after it had exited administration. The report said Simm, Toby Hagan and Matt Cruden had previously been silent shareholders. PerthNow’s spelling is “Hagan”; The Crafty Pint spells the name “Hagen.”

The DOCA proponent and the reported acquirer are connected through people, but they should not be treated as the same transaction. The Crafty Pint described Run With Us as driven by Michael Simm, Matthew Cruden and Toby Hagen. PerthNow identified Simm Group as the later acquirer. The available reporting does not provide the acquisition’s price or detailed legal terms.
Michael Simm, identified by PerthNow as Simm Group’s founder, said: “I was impressed by the brand, the products and the team working hard behind the scenes.” PerthNow’s report is dated 8 February 2024 and describes the acquisition as having been announced late the previous year.

Did Running with Thieves close?
The reporting indicates that the business continued through the 2023 administration and exited under the DOCA; it does not support saying that it closed as a result of that process. In 2024, The West Australian described the business as operating under Simm Group management in coverage of a whisky and bourbon launch. That is evidence of activity reported in 2024, not confirmation that the business is operating in 2026.
The available sources do not establish Running with Thieves’ current ownership, trading status, or product availability. The most reliable conclusion is limited to the documented sequence: administration in August 2023, a DOCA and exit in November, followed by a press-reported Simm Group acquisition later in 2023.
