The “past ten days” in this headline means June 8–19, 2015, when raids and new corruption and money-laundering cases brought Chhagan Bhujbal and members of his family under renewed scrutiny. The headline’s Rs 2,000-crore figure was a 2015 news report’s estimate of allegedly questionably acquired assets—not an audited valuation or a court finding. Later reporting records Bhujbal’s discharge in the Maharashtra Sadan Enforcement Directorate case in January 2026 and in the Kalina library Anti-Corruption Bureau case in September 2026.
What the headline’s “past ten days” refers to
Aarefa Johari’s Scroll article was published on June 19, 2015. Its ten-day window began on June 8, when raids and case registrations renewed scrutiny of Bhujbal, then a former Maharashtra deputy chief minister and public works minister. The article described two Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases and an Enforcement Directorate (ED) money-laundering case, as well as another ED case involving his son, Pankaj, and nephew, Sameer. These were investigative steps and allegations, not findings of guilt. Scroll’s June 19, 2015 account is the source for the period and the allegations summarized here.
What investigators and the 2015 report alleged
The Scroll account connected the scrutiny to public works and property-related matters. Its figures describe allegations and reported contract or transaction values; they should not be added together or read as established losses.
Maharashtra Sadan and other guest-house contracts
Scroll reported that the Maharashtra Sadan project, along with RTO and other guest-house contracts, was valued at Rs 100 crore. The report described alleged irregularities in the project and related contracts. The figure is the reported value of the contracts, not a court-determined loss.

Kalina library project
The article put the Kalina library contract at Rs 124 crore and described it as another subject of alleged irregularities. This was a reported contract value, not a finding that the full amount was misappropriated.
Share premiums and charitable-trust donations
According to Scroll’s account of the ED allegation, premiums on shares in family-run companies generated Rs 130 crore in proceeds. The report also said Indiabulls had donated Rs 2.5 crore to the Chhagan Bhujbal Charitable Trust. These are distinct reported amounts and do not by themselves establish wrongdoing or the source of any funds.
Hex World housing project
Scroll reported the ED allegation that the Hex World project involved Rs 44 crore in advance bookings and 2,300 bookings. Those figures describe the allegation as reported in 2015; they are not a judicial finding about the project.
Development rights and properties
The article said BJP leaders had alleged that Rs 10,000 crore worth of transferable development rights had been granted. It also listed properties said to have emerged from raids, including flats, bungalows, shops, a Lonavala helipad and Bhujbal Farms. Scroll estimated Bhujbal Farms’ worth at Rs 100 crore. Bhujbal, as quoted in the article, described properties as “ancestral property” or as having been bought four decades earlier; that was his reported characterization, not independent verification of ownership history.

What “Rs 2,000 crore and counting” did—and did not—mean
Scroll used Rs 2,000 crore in its headline as an estimate of allegedly questionably acquired assets. It was not an audited valuation, a court-established amount, or a current assessment of Bhujbal’s wealth. For context, the same article reported that Bhujbal had listed total assets of Rs 22 crore in his election affidavit. The two figures have different bases and statuses: one was a news report’s estimate of allegedly questionable assets, while the other was the reported total in an election affidavit. Neither should be treated as proof of the allegations or combined with the contract, transaction and property figures above.

Later court outcomes change how the 2015 allegations should be described. A discharge is a procedural court decision; it is not a conviction. The available later reports establish the reported outcomes below, but do not supply the full orders for independent examination.
Maharashtra Sadan ED case: January 23, 2026
The Indian Express reported that a special court discharged Bhujbal, his son and his nephew in the ED money-laundering case connected to Maharashtra Sadan. The January 23, 2026 report describes that outcome.
Kalina library ACB case: September 24, 2026
The Indian Express reported that Bhujbal was discharged in the Kalina library ACB case, describing it as the last pending ACB corruption case relating to his 2004–2014 tenure as public works minister. Its September 24, 2026 report records the discharge. Hindustan Times reproduced this sentence from the special court: “The prosecution has not been able to demonstrate the necessary nexus between the applicant’s official acts and the alleged criminal object.” Hindustan Times’ account is the source for the quotation; the underlying judgment is not independently reviewed here.

How to read the 2015 figures alongside the later outcomes
- Keep the dates attached: the asset estimate and allegations belong to a June 2015 news report; the discharge decisions were reported in January and September 2026.
- Distinguish allegation from finding: raids, case registrations and allegations do not establish guilt. The reported discharges are court outcomes, not findings that every claim in the 2015 article was false.
- Do not treat unlike figures as a total: the report’s headline estimate, project contract values, transaction allegations and property estimates concern different things and cannot be added into a verified asset figure.
- Limit the update to what is reported: the later articles establish discharge outcomes in the specified cases. They do not, on their own, verify the 2015 property descriptions or provide a basis for a current net-worth estimate.
