Western Railway’s 2024–25 Act Apprentice notice offered 5,066 training slots, not permanent railway jobs. Applications are closed: the original registration deadline was 22 October 2024, and later payment windows applied only to people who had registered by that cutoff. For current notices, check the official RRC-WR website.
What the 2024–25 RRC-WR notice offered
Western Railway’s notification RRC/WR/03/2024, dated 20 September 2024, invited applications for 5,066 Act Apprentice training slots in designated trades at its divisions and workshops. The engagement was apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961—not direct recruitment to permanent railway positions. Trade and location-wise slot counts appeared in the notification’s annexures.
The notice listed trades including Fitter, Welder, Turner, Machinist, Carpenter, Painter (General), Mechanic (Diesel), Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Wireman, Mechanic Refrigeration & AC, Pipe Fitter, Plumber, Draftsman (Civil), Stenographer (English), Forger and Heat Treater, Mechanic (Electrical Power Drives), and Programming & Systems Administration Assistant.
Application dates and why later windows did not reopen registration
Online applications opened at 11:00 on 23 September 2024. The original deadline to register was 17:00 on 22 October 2024. All application periods for this cycle have passed.

- 21 October 2024 corrigendum: RRC-WR said technical problems had affected applicants. Registration still closed at 17:00 on 22 October; only people who had registered by then could pay and submit between 11:00 on 23 October and 17:00 on 29 October. The total remained 5,066, though trade slots could be redistributed if shortfalls persisted.
- 17 December 2024 payment notice: A further payment and submission window ran from 11:00 on 18 December through 17:00 on 23 December. It was only for applicants registered by 17:00 on 22 October—not a new registration period.
Neither notice allowed new applicants to register after the original cutoff. The RRC-WR home page now lists a separate 2025–26 apprentice engagement notice alongside archived 2024–25 documents; do not treat an old application link as open.
Eligibility requirements in the 2024 notice
Age
Applicants had to have completed 15 years and not completed 24 years of age as of 22 October 2024. The notice provided upper-age relaxation of five years for SC/ST applicants, three years for OBC applicants, and ten years for PwD applicants, along with additional provisions for ex-servicemen. Individual eligibility depends on the notice’s detailed category and date-of-birth rules.
Education and trade qualification
Applicants needed to have passed Matriculation (Class 10 under the 10+2 system) with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognized board, as well as an NCVT- or SCVT-affiliated ITI certificate in the relevant designated trade. Applicants awaiting results were ineligible. Engineering graduates and diploma holders were outside this apprenticeship scheme.
Application documents and choice
The online application required entries and uploads including 10th marksheet or date-of-birth evidence, ITI consolidated marksheet and trade certificate, a photograph and signature, and applicable category or reservation documents. The notification specified formats and further requirements; applicants needed to follow its complete instructions. Only one division or workshop could be selected, and that choice was final.

Fee and how selection worked
The non-refundable application fee was ₹100. The notice exempted SC, ST, PwD and women applicants; other applicants paid online as part of submission.
Selection was by merit list using the average of Matriculation and ITI percentages, with equal weight given to each. Western Railway’s notice states: “There will be no written test or viva.” For a tie, the older applicant ranked higher; if dates of birth were the same, preference went to the applicant who passed Matriculation earlier. Final selection was subject to original-document verification and medical fitness.
Rank #4
Training, stipend and employment expectations
The apprenticeship lasted one year. Stipend was payable at the prescribed rate governed by the concerned state governments; the notice did not set one universal amount.
Completing the apprenticeship did not guarantee a permanent railway job. The notification describes a limited future preference: Course Completed Act Apprentices trained in Railway establishments and holding a National Apprenticeship Certificate may receive preference in filling 20% of vacancies in certain open-market Level-1 recruitments, subject to the applicable RRB/RRC recruitment norms. This is conditional, not automatic appointment or a promise of a vacancy.
Where to check current notices and candidate updates
Use the official RRC-WR website for later recruitment notices and official results or notices relating to the 2024–25 cycle. The results section’s listing of the apprentice category does not by itself confirm an individual’s panel status or outcome; check the relevant official notice or use the contact details on the site for case-specific questions.
Western Railway’s notification also warns applicants to use its official website and beware of fake sites, touts, or anyone claiming they can secure a railway job through influence. Do not pay an intermediary for a promised selection.
