Rover announced on June 12, 2025, that President and COO Brent Turner would become CEO effective July 1. Co-founder Aaron Easterly, who had led the company as CEO since 2011, moved into the role of Executive Chair of the Board; he did not leave Rover altogether. The change is a historical transition, not a newly announced 2026 succession.
Who replaced Aaron Easterly as Rover CEO?
Brent Turner succeeded Easterly. At the time of the announcement, Turner was Rover’s President and Chief Operating Officer, making the appointment an internal succession. Rover said Turner had joined its leadership team in 2014. GeekWire reported that Easterly recruited him that year.
Turner said in Rover’s June 12 announcement, “I am honored to lead Rover and its amazing team in this next phase.”
When did the leadership change take effect?
Rover announced the succession on June 12, 2025, and said Turner’s appointment would take effect July 1, 2025. Easterly had been CEO since 2011, according to the company announcement.

Did Easterly leave Rover?
No. Easterly stepped down from the CEO role and became Executive Chair of Rover’s Board. In the announcement, he said, “Leading this company over the past 14 years has been one of the proudest achievements of my life.” The quote reflects his statement in the company’s release.
Was the succession caused by Rover’s Blackstone deal?
The available reporting does not support that conclusion. GeekWire reported that the succession plan predated Rover’s 2024 deal with Blackstone, so the timing of the transition should not be presented as a consequence of that transaction.

What was Rover’s business and scale at the time?
Rover described itself in its June 2025 announcement as a marketplace connecting pet owners with providers for boarding, in-home sitting, daycare, dog walking, and drop-in visits, with operations in the United States, Canada, and European countries.

- Rover said annual bookings grew from 115,000 in 2014 to 7.2 million in 2025. These are company-reported figures in the succession announcement.
- The company said 6.2 million unique pet-owning households had booked through Rover to date; this is a cumulative figure, not an annual household count.
- GeekWire reported that Rover recorded $1.1 billion in gross booking value in 2024.
- Turner said in the company release that Rover had “over a billion dollars in annual sales” and operated in 16 countries at the time. Those are statements attributed to Turner, not independently audited figures in this article.
