Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa are members of the ownership group of Italian club Campobasso FC—not its sole buyers—and their experience became the focus of ESPN’s four-part 2025 docuseries Running with the Wolves. The club named North Sixth Group as its principal owner and operator when it announced the couple’s involvement in November 2022.

What Consuelos and Ripa’s Campobasso investment means

Campobasso FC announced on November 10, 2022, that Ripa and Consuelos had joined its ownership group and would work with North Sixth Group. The club identified North Sixth as the principal owner and operator, so describing the couple as co-owners or members of the ownership group is more accurate than saying they bought the club outright. Campobasso FC’s announcement

The club’s competitive context has changed over time. In its 2022 announcement, Campobasso said North Sixth had taken over the side competing in Molise’s Eccellenza league after the previous team’s difficulties that summer. ESPN described Campobasso as a Serie C club in its 2025 series announcement. Those are dated descriptions, not the same season or status. ESPN’s series announcement

What Running with the Wolves covers

ESPN announced the four-part ESPN Original on July 9, 2025. The series follows the owners through club decisions and the pressures surrounding the team, from roster choices and coaching questions to matches, fan protest and the club’s relationship with its community. Its announced episode descriptions were:

  • “Leading the Pack”: Mark and Kelly prepare for the club’s third season as owners, with roster decisions ahead of the opening match.
  • “Home Games”: Kelly travels to Campobasso, and the couple considers buying a home in Italy as the team prepares for a rivalry match.
  • “The Time Is Now”: Mark faces a decision about the head coach after a prolonged losing streak.
  • “The Wolves Den”: Fans protest as the team battles to avoid relegation, followed by the season’s final match.

What the owners have said about the project

In ESPN’s announcement, Consuelos and Ripa described Campobasso FC as an underdog story: “Campobasso FC represents the underdog that lives in all of us.” ESPN’s announcement

In an ESPN interview published July 29, 2025, Consuelos described the work behind his role: “Kelly will tell you how all-in I’ve been, from 3 a.m. calls with coaches to picking players and even meeting with fans face-to-face.” He added, “I played football growing up and in college, but this ownership role has completely changed my perspective.” ESPN interview with Consuelos

Consuelos also called the community story “a tale of a region learning to trust a bunch of crazy Americans who came in and bought their team.” That is his characterization of the experience, not a neutral description of the local community. ESPN interview with Consuelos
