In August 2022, Condé Nast Traveler called La Pergola Rome’s most expensive restaurant, citing a €300 tasting menu that excluded wine. That was the publication’s characterization, not a comprehensive or independently audited ranking of every restaurant in the city.
What La Pergola’s reported 2022 menus cost
Two 2022 reports gave different prices for La Pergola, and the menu details show why those figures should not be treated as one fixed price. A January report from ViaggiNews listed two menu options; in August, Condé Nast Traveler reported a €300 tasting menu but did not state its course count.
| Restaurant and report date | Reported price | Menu details |
|---|---|---|
| La Pergola, January 2022 | €250 | Seven courses, according to ViaggiNews. |
| La Pergola, January 2022 | €290 | Ten courses, according to ViaggiNews. |
| La Pergola, January 2022 | €100 supplement | Reported supplement for a dish with white Alba truffle; ViaggiNews does not describe it as a separate menu price. |
| La Pergola, August 2022 | €300 | Tasting menu; Condé Nast Traveler said wine was not included and did not state the course count. |
The January and August figures come from different reports and menu descriptions. They do not establish a price increase, nor do they tell readers what La Pergola charges today.
How Imàgo compares
A 2022 article from Scatti di Gusto reported a six-course tasting menu at Imàgo for €170, with an optional additional course for €20. This is a useful dated comparison, but it is not enough to rank Imàgo against every expensive restaurant in Rome. The report does not establish whether wine was included.

What the figures do—and do not—tell you
Menu prices are only comparable when the date, number of courses, and wine inclusion are clear. The cited reports do not provide all those details consistently: La Pergola’s August course count is unstated, and the Imàgo report does not establish wine inclusion. A menu price also does not, by itself, describe the total cost of a meal.
The MICHELIN Guide’s current Rome restaurant listings place both La Pergola and Imàgo in the €€€€ category. That broad current category is not an exact bill and cannot verify the restaurants’ 2022 menu prices.

Is a high-end dinner worth budgeting for?
For a personal travel budget, treat a tasting-menu price as a starting point rather than an all-in total. Check the restaurant’s current menu directly before booking, and confirm what is included—particularly wine and any optional supplements. The reported 2022 prices are historical snapshots, not present-day quotes.
If your aim is to identify the single most expensive restaurant in Rome, the defensible answer from the cited coverage is narrower: Condé Nast Traveler named La Pergola in August 2022. The available figures do not support a complete citywide ranking, and Imàgo is only one price comparison.
