Rogers completed its purchase of the remaining 25% of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) on October 1, 2026, giving it full ownership. Separately, Rogers has said it intends to sell a minority stake in a combined portfolio of sports, media and entertainment assets. The company has not disclosed the proposed stake’s size, valuation or investors, and the available announcements do not confirm that a sale process has begun.
What Rogers has completed—and what it plans to sell
Rogers announced on July 6, 2026, that it would buy Kilmer Sports Inc.’s remaining 25% interest in MLSE for C$4.35 billion. The acquisition closed on October 1, bringing Rogers’ MLSE ownership to 100%. Rogers’ July announcement and October closing announcement describe the purchase.
The proposed minority investment is a separate transaction. In July, Rogers said it intended to sell a minority stake in consolidated sports, media and entertainment assets over the following year. That is a planned portfolio-level sale—not an announcement that Rogers will sell a separate stake in each Toronto team.
Which assets are part of the portfolio?
Rogers said MLSE includes the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC and Toronto Argonauts, affiliated development teams, Scotiabank Arena, and a partnership with Live Nation. Rogers’ existing portfolio also includes the Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Centre and Sportsnet. The company said it planned to bring these businesses together in a new unit called Rogers Sports. The October 1 release confirms MLSE’s acquisition and the new unit, but does not specify precisely which assets would be included in a minority investment.

What is known about a potential minority sale?
Rogers President and CEO Tony Staffieri said in the July announcement: “As previously disclosed, Rogers intends to sell a minority stake in the consolidated Rogers sports, media and entertainment assets over the course of the next year.” Rogers described the plan as forward-looking information and cautioned that a transaction might not be completed on the expected terms or timeline, or at all. The July release is the company’s stated basis for the plan.
As of October 8, 2026, the available announcements do not establish the proposed stake’s percentage, a sale valuation, prospective investors, governance rights, or whether Rogers has launched a formal sale process since completing the MLSE purchase. Rogers’ October 1 closing announcement did not update those terms. Its second-quarter filing described an investor offer as intended after the MLSE acquisition; that statement alone does not confirm a post-closing process. Rogers’ Q2 2026 filing provides that context.

Why the C$4.35 billion figure is not a sale valuation
C$4.35 billion is the price Rogers paid for Kilmer Sports’ remaining 25% of MLSE. It is not a disclosed valuation for the proposed minority stake in Rogers’ combined sports, media and entertainment portfolio. MobileSyrup reported in April 2026 that Rogers executives expected the combined assets to be worth more than C$25 billion, but that was secondary reporting of a company estimate—not a published transaction valuation or confirmed sale price. MobileSyrup’s April report should be read in that context.

A minority stake would mean an investor takes a non-controlling interest in the assets covered by the deal. The available announcements do not say what decision-making or governance rights an investor would receive, or how any proceeds would be used. They also do not say that the investor would acquire control of a team. Those details would need to be set out in any eventual transaction terms.
