Rogers became the majority owner of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) in July 2025, when it bought BCE’s 37.5% stake for C$4.7 billion and increased its ownership to 75%. Rogers completed its purchase of Kilmer Sports’ remaining 25% on October 1, 2026, so it now owns 100% of MLSE. Rogers’ completion announcement confirms the current position; its 2025 announcement describes the earlier majority-ownership deal.
Who owns MLSE now?
Rogers Communications owns all of MLSE as of October 1, 2026, when it completed the acquisition of Kilmer Sports’ 25% interest. The transaction followed Rogers’ 2025 purchase of BCE’s stake. The 2025 deal made Rogers the majority owner, but not the sole owner; the Kilmer purchase brought its interest from 75% to 100%.
What did Rogers pay for the two stakes?
| Transaction | Stake purchased | Announced price | Rogers’ ownership afterward | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BCE stake, 2025 | 37.5% | C$4.7 billion | 75% | Closed effective July 1, 2025, after required regulatory and league approvals; announced July 2, 2025. Rogers announcement |
| Kilmer Sports stake, 2026 | 25% | C$4.35 billion | 100% | Agreement announced July 6, 2026, subject to league approvals and then expected to close in Q4; completion confirmed October 1, 2026. Completion announcement |
These were purchases of different-sized stakes from different sellers. Their prices should not be treated as directly comparable parcels or used on their own to infer a definitive valuation for MLSE.
What does MLSE include?
Rogers’ October 2026 announcement lists the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto FC (MLS), Toronto Argonauts (CFL), the development teams affiliated with the Toronto NHL and NBA franchises, Scotiabank Arena, and MLSE’s partnership with Live Nation.

The same announcement lists the Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Centre, and Sportsnet as part of Rogers’ wider portfolio, separately from MLSE. The Blue Jays are therefore not an MLSE team.
What did Rogers say it plans to do?
In its October 2026 completion announcement, Rogers said it would create a Rogers Sports business unit combining sports, media, and entertainment businesses, including MLSE and the Blue Jays. The company said that, during the interim, Keith Pelley would remain MLSE President and CEO and Mark Shapiro would remain Blue Jays President and CEO, with Pelley taking on additional accountability for Rogers Media. Those are plans and leadership arrangements as described in Rogers’ announcement, not confirmation of later implementation.

Rogers framed the acquisition as a way to bring MLSE’s teams together with its other sports, media, and entertainment businesses. In the completion announcement, Rogers President and CEO Tony Staffieri said: “We’re proud to bring these beloved teams together with the rest of Rogers to deliver more for fans, audiences, and customers.” That is the acquiring company’s stated rationale; the announcement does not establish realized financial synergies or measured effects on fans.
