The charge is described as “Wireless Plan Rate Adjustment.” The notice reported by MobileSyrup says it is subject to tax, but available information does not show that every Rogers or Fido customer—or every plan—was affected.
What is the Rogers and Fido wireless price adjustment?
In a June 23, 2026 staff letter, the CRTC said Rogers had informed its mobile wireless customers by a note on their billing statements that it intended to add $5 per month starting July 15, 2026. Rogers called the charge a “Wireless Plan Rate Adjustment.” The letter was addressed to Rogers and treated the issue as a Wireless Code compliance matter; it was not a final ruling that the adjustment violated the Code. Read the CRTC letter.
MobileSyrup reported that some Rogers and Fido subscribers received notices. The notice quoted in the report says the charge is plus taxes and begins with the next bill on or after July 15. It is to appear as a separate line under Monthly Charges, while other wireless services remain the same. The report also described varied customer experiences: some people reported a $4 increase, while some customers on a plan discussed in the article reportedly received no notice. The $5 amount is therefore the amount in the quoted notice, not a verified increase for every account. Read MobileSyrup’s report.
How to check whether your bill changed
- Open your Rogers or Fido bill for the first billing period beginning on or after July 15, 2026.
- Look under Monthly Charges for a line labelled “Wireless Plan Rate Adjustment.” Check the amount, applicable tax and start date against any notice you received.
- Compare the total for each line with your previous bill. Include any other changes, such as discounts ending, plan changes, device payments or usage charges, before attributing the full difference to this adjustment.
- If the bill does not match the notice or you are unsure why it changed, contact your provider and ask which charge applies to your account and when it began.
The evidence does not provide a complete list of affected plans or establish that all Rogers or Fido customers received the notice. Treat the amount and bill impact as account-specific.

What the CRTC has—and has not—decided
The CRTC’s June 23 letter raised concerns about whether the planned adjustment complied with the Wireless Code. Separately, CRTC Regulatory Policy 2026-43 describes protections that include a bar on changing key contract terms, including the minimum monthly price, during a commitment period. It also addresses prohibited activation or modification fees, with exceptions that include reasonable installation charges and products or services a customer explicitly chooses. Those general rules do not by themselves resolve whether this particular adjustment complied with the Code. Read CRTC Regulatory Policy 2026-43.
The sources available here do not establish the final disposition of the CRTC’s inquiry into the Wireless Plan Rate Adjustment. A separate CRTC show-cause proceeding, Telecom Notice of Consultation 2026-155, concerns fees that may impede switching cellphone and Internet plans; it is distinct from the inquiry into this adjustment. What customers can do next
Compare the full monthly cost
When weighing whether to stay or switch, compare the regular price after discounts or promotions end, included data, coverage where you live and travel, roaming terms, and any device financing or other commitments. A lower advertised price may not be a better fit if it excludes a feature you rely on or changes your device obligations. The CRTC recommends comparing plans and recognizes switching as a way to look for a better deal. Read the CRTC’s April 13, 2026 release.
Ask about your account, without assuming a specific outcome
If you contact Rogers or Fido, ask whether the adjustment applies to your line, how it is calculated, and whether any plan alternatives are available. The available sources do not guarantee a discount, reversal or retention offer, so confirm any change in writing and review the resulting monthly cost.

Check the effect of changing plans on your term
Rogers says changing a wireless price plan will not extend or change the existing term. That does not necessarily answer what happens to device financing, promotional credits or other account-specific conditions, so check your own agreement before accepting a change.
