Roger Federer’s Net Worth: Why the $1 Billion Estimate Has Changed

Federer’s billion-dollar status depends on the date and source: estimates shifted from more than $1 billion in 2025 to $952.4 million in Forbes’s August 2026 update.

Roger Federer was estimated to be worth more than $1 billion in 2025, but that milestone is not a verified or permanent figure. Forbes estimated his wealth at $1.1 billion on August 24, 2025, while Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index put it at about $1.3 billion in June 2025. In an August 11, 2026 update, Forbes estimated $952.4 million after On Holding shares fell. The difference reflects estimates made by different publishers on different dates—not a confirmed change in an audited personal balance sheet.

Is Roger Federer a billionaire?

It depends on which dated estimate you use. Forbes Australia reported an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion on August 24, 2025, and Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index reported about $1.3 billion in June 2025. Forbes later estimated Federer’s wealth at $952.4 million at 12:30 p.m. on August 11, 2026, below the billion-dollar mark at that time. These are publisher estimates, not audited disclosures, and they are not directly interchangeable.

Forbes linked its 2026 revision to a decline in On Holding shares. Its estimate is a snapshot tied to a particular market price and time, rather than a fixed measure of what Federer owns. No primary company filing identified here verifies Federer’s personal share count or current net worth.

How Federer’s On investment affects his estimated wealth

Federer took an equity stake in Swiss sportswear company On in 2019. Forbes Australia reported that his wife introduced him to the brand’s shoes; he then contacted the founders and helped develop an on-court tennis shoe and a lifestyle apparel line. On went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021.

Forbes estimated Federer held around 3% of On at the time of the 2021 IPO, worth more than $375 million at the valuation used in its 2025 article. In its 2026 estimate, Forbes put his stake at roughly 2.5%. Neither percentage is a company-confirmed disclosure of his personal holdings.

The mechanism is straightforward: a public-company stake can rise in estimated value as the share price increases and fall when the share price declines. Forbes said On shares dropped about 19% on August 11, 2026, after the company reported second-quarter sales below expectations; the publication placed Federer’s estimated wealth at $952.4 million at 12:30 p.m. that day.

Marc Maurer, then On’s co-CEO, described Federer’s role to Forbes in 2023: “Roger was the accelerator. We basically wanted to open the door, and we were clear that tennis is the next sport. We were very fortunate that Roger embarked on that mission together with us.”

What contributes to Federer’s wealth besides On?

The On stake is an important part of the billionaire headline, but it is not the whole story. Forbes Australia reported nearly $131 million in career prize money over Federer’s 24-year ATP career. It also estimated roughly $1 billion in off-court income from endorsements, appearances, and other business endeavors over his playing career, before taxes and agent fees. Those are career-income measures, not net worth, and should not be added to a net-worth estimate.

Forbes reported that Federer was the highest-paid tennis player for 16 consecutive years and estimated his total pretax earnings in 2020 at $106.3 million. It also reported that he left Nike in 2018 after about $150 million in payments over two decades for a reported Uniqlo apparel deal worth about $300 million over ten years.

His other business interests cited by Forbes Australia include Team8, the Laver Cup, and an investment in Chilean food-tech company NotCo. The same article said the Laver Cup had generally been profitable, with 2023 an exception due to infrastructure spending. Its revenue projections for the 2025 event are historical projections, not current figures.

How to compare the different net-worth figures

A useful comparison checks what each figure measures and when it was published. In particular, separate estimated net worth from career earnings and from the estimated value of one asset, such as an equity stake.

Figure What it represents Attribution and date
$1.1 billion Estimated net worth Forbes Australia, August 24, 2025
About $1.3 billion Estimated net worth Bloomberg Billionaires Index, June 2025

Around 3% Estimated On stake at the time of the 2021 IPO Forbes, 2025
More than $375 million Estimated value of Federer’s On equity at the valuation used in the article Forbes, 2025
Nearly $131 million Career prize money over 24 years on the ATP Tour Forbes Australia, 2025

  • Date: A market-sensitive estimate can change as the value of publicly traded shares changes.
  • Publisher and method: Forbes and Bloomberg may use different approaches and assumptions.
  • Value assigned to On: The stake’s estimated value depends on the share price and assumptions about Federer’s ownership.
  • Type of figure: Net worth, career earnings, and the value of one holding answer different questions.

What the billionaire headline does—and does not—mean

Federer’s reported billionaire milestone describes an estimate at a particular point in time, not proof that he crossed a permanent threshold. His wealth reflects more than tennis prize money: long-running commercial income and business interests also matter, while the publicly traded On stake can move with the market. The available reporting does not establish a complete, audited balance sheet or independently verify his current personal holdings.
