The manufacturer said it helps seed dry and improves lubrication and flowability, while providing iron and molybdenum. Those are manufacturer-described functions and intended benefits—not a guarantee of improved emergence or yield. A 2023 Koch Agronomic Services product card associates Moly Shine with Protivate NU5-LUX, but growers should check the current product label for identity, directions and availability.
What is Moly Shine seed treatment?
Moly Shine was introduced as a seed finisher in Compass Minerals’ Rocket Seeds portfolio. A seed finisher is applied at the end of a seed-treatment process; the company described Moly Shine as a drying source that also improves lubrication and flowability. These handling functions may matter when treated seed needs to move through planting equipment, but the announcement does not provide quantified handling results.
The product was described as containing micronutrients including iron and molybdenum. Compass Minerals said the iron source was intended to help address early-season iron deficiency chlorosis and that molybdenum was intended to promote early-season nitrogen uptake and nitrogen-use efficiency. The company’s then vice president of innovation and product development, Dr. Ryan Bartlett, said the product was created “to optimize delivery of key nutrients to legume crops during early stand establishment.” These are the manufacturer’s stated purposes, not independently established outcomes.
What performance evidence did the manufacturer report?
Compass Minerals said pre-market laboratory testing found soybean seeds treated with Moly Shine had more root surface area, nodules and nutrient uptake than untreated seeds. The December 2019 announcement did not report the study design, sample size, numerical effect sizes, publication venue or independent replication. It also did not establish a field-yield increase. The company’s broader claim that delivering nutrients on seed could promote nodulation and improve nitrogen fixation should likewise be read as a company claim, not a guaranteed result.

Is Moly Shine for soybeans, legumes and pulses?
Yes, those crops are the stated fit in the available product materials. Compass Minerals’ 2019 launch described Moly Shine as ideally suited to soybeans and legumes. A Koch Agronomic Services pocket card dated April 27, 2023 lists soybean, legume and pulse crops for Protivate NU5-LUX, which it associates with the formulation previously called Moly Shine.
Is Moly Shine the same as Protivate NU5-LUX?
The Koch Agronomic Services 2023 card links Protivate NU5-LUX to the formulation previously called Moly Shine. That supports a relationship between the names, but the card is not a current product label or a notice establishing when or under what terms a rename occurred. Confirm the exact product identity from the current label and with the manufacturer or retailer before relying on older product information.

What do fertilizer records establish?
Government fertilizer lists show historical, jurisdiction-specific entries—not nationwide registration, current stock or application directions. Maryland’s commercial fertilizer record displays Rocket Seeds Moly Shine 0-5-0 with a January 31, 2026 date. New Hampshire’s 2021 approved-products list shows Rocket Seeds Moly Shine 1-5-0. The listed grades differ, and neither entry by itself tells a grower which product or directions apply to a particular purchase today.
