On October 20, 2025, Jaimee Seitz sued Roblox Corporation and Discord Inc. in federal court in Kentucky, alleging that online interactions and the companies’ platform designs contributed to the suicide of her daughter, Audree Heine. The complaint’s claims have not been established as facts by a court. As of October 8, 2026, the latest procedural report identified a dispute over Roblox’s request for arbitration, but the sources available here do not establish whether a judge has ruled on it.
What the Kentucky lawsuit alleges
The case, Seitz v. Roblox Corporation and Discord Inc., was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Covington Division. Seitz brought it individually and as administrator of Heine’s estate. The complaint says Heine died by suicide one week after her 13th birthday.
According to the complaint, Heine encountered users associated with a “True Crime Community” that glorified mass shooters. It alleges that interactions and social pressure across Roblox and Discord encouraged her to harm herself and others, and that the platforms’ design and safety representations contributed to her death. Those are the plaintiff’s allegations, not findings that either company caused the death or violated the law. The complaint names Roblox and Discord; it does not name TikTok as a defendant.
What has happened in court
The most recent procedural account identified in the sources reviewed is an August 20, 2026, PBS Kentucky Edition report. It said Roblox was seeking to send the dispute to arbitration, relying on terms the company says Heine accepted when she signed up at age eight. Her mother’s attorneys objected to treating those signup clicks as a waiver of a jury trial.

That report described an ongoing procedural dispute. It does not establish that the court ordered arbitration or denied Roblox’s request, and no later ruling is confirmed here. Arbitration concerns where and how the claims may be decided; it is not itself a ruling on whether the complaint’s allegations are true.
Roblox’s stated safety measures and reporting figures
In an August 15, 2025, company statement, Roblox said, “Roblox as a policy does not comment on pending litigation.” It also described safeguards including parental controls, content maturity labels, text filters, age estimation, moderation teams and monitoring. These are Roblox’s descriptions of its systems, not independent evidence that the measures prevented the alleged harm in Heine’s case.

In that same statement, Roblox reported 24,522 reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in 2024. Roblox said that figure was 0.12% of the 20.3 million total reports submitted to NCMEC. These are company-reported submissions and totals: they do not measure the rate of harm on Roblox, establish the accuracy of any report, or show how effective the platform’s safeguards were.
How other Roblox legal proceedings relate
Roblox’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, described lawsuits or investigations in several states and Los Angeles County concerning youth safety and consumer-protection claims. The company said those matters were in early stages and that it could not reasonably estimate losses at that time. They are separate proceedings from Seitz’s Kentucky wrongful-death case.

In announcing the Tennessee development, Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said, “We will keep pursuing accountability for Tennessee families.” That statement concerns Tennessee’s separate case, not the claims made by Heine’s estate.

For investors, the legal developments are relevant to the company’s disclosed litigation exposure, but the cited filing does not quantify a potential loss for the early-stage matters it describes. The Tennessee decision permits one separate case to continue; it is not a final finding of liability. The Kentucky arbitration dispute could affect the path of that case, but its outcome is not established by the sources reviewed.

For families, Roblox’s public description of parental controls, content labels, filters, age estimation and moderation explains what the company says it offers. It does not establish how those measures operated in Heine’s circumstances. The complaint and the company’s account therefore represent different positions in an unresolved legal dispute, not a court-verified conclusion about the effectiveness of any particular safeguard.
