Yes—Roblox documents a feature that lets eligible creators charge a one-time fee in local currency for access to an experience. That is not the same as selling a standalone game file, and the available official documentation does not establish a newly announced future launch. Players buy access through desktop or the web, then can play on devices the creator supports.
What “selling a Roblox game” means
Roblox’s paid access in local currency documentation describes a way to charge real money for entry to an experience hosted on Roblox. The purchase grants access within the platform; it does not transfer ownership of the experience or provide a standalone game download.
Roblox describes paid access as one possible way to run a closed beta: “Some developers temporarily enable paid access to create a closed beta so that their most engaged users can have early access to a game to help with testing and feedback.” That is a use case, not a guarantee that a paid experience is a beta or that it has been independently tested.
The feature is documented today. The available documentation does not confirm that Roblox has just announced a new plan or provide an announcement date for a future rollout.

How paid access works for players and creators
For players
- Players purchase local-currency access on desktop or the web, according to Roblox’s access guidance.
- After purchase, they can play on any device the creator enables for that experience in Creator Hub. The purchase channel and the devices supported for play are separate considerations.
- It is a one-time access fee, rather than a recurring subscription, as described in the Creator Hub paid-access documentation.
For creators
Creators need to meet Roblox’s eligibility requirements and set up payments. Roblox’s documentation names Tipalti as a third-party payment provider. Requirements, availability, pricing rules, payment handling, and revenue terms may vary or change, so creators should check the current paid-access requirements and applicable terms before enabling the feature.
Roblox’s broad monetization overview says creators “generally earn 70% of anything they sell in Robux in their game, 30% of anything they sell in the Marketplace, and up to 90% for things they sell in real money (such as plugins or paid access purchases).” This is a general description, not a guaranteed paid-access payout or a promise that every creator receives the maximum. Check the feature-specific terms for the applicable revenue share and payment conditions.

Paid access versus Robux monetization and DevEx
The important distinction is what the player buys and which currency they use. A real-money fee for entry is different from a Robux purchase inside an experience, and both differ from the process of cashing out eligible Robux.
| Option | What the buyer pays for | Currency and purchase pattern | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paid access in local currency | Access to an experience | Local currency; one-time fee | Feature eligibility, payment setup, and applicable revenue-share terms apply; purchase is on desktop or web. |
| Paid access in Robux | Access to an experience | Robux | A separate access-purchase route; do not assume its payout mechanics match local-currency paid access. |
| Passes | A permanent or otherwise defined privilege within an experience | Robux; generally a one-time purchase | They sell an in-experience benefit, not entry to the experience itself. See Roblox’s passes documentation. |
| Developer products | Repeatable items or abilities, such as in-game currency, ammo, or potions | Robux; can be purchased repeatedly | Creators must correctly process purchase receipts. See Roblox’s developer products documentation. |
| DevEx | Not a player purchase; it is a creator cash-out program | Eligible Earned Robux exchanged for local currency | It applies after qualifying Robux earnings, not to a player’s direct local-currency access fee. See the DevEx program page. |
| Creator Store | Creator assets such as plugins and models | Roblox’s public page describes real-world pricing for eligible assets | This is a separate asset marketplace, not game access. Roblox says its real-world pricing model returns 100% of net proceeds to creators; check live terms and product eligibility on the Creator Store page. |
| Commerce products | Real-world products sold through games | Real-money commerce | This concerns physical-goods sales, not charging for access to a Roblox experience. See Roblox’s commerce products documentation. |
How Roblox creators cash out
DevEx is distinct from charging players directly for local-currency access. Roblox calls it “a program that allows eligible creators to exchange their Earned Robux for real-world local currency.” The Roblox DevEx getting-started guidance says a creator needs at least 30,000 Earned Robux to submit a cash-out request. That is a stated threshold, not automatic approval: other eligibility requirements and program terms apply, and the guidance should be checked for updates.

Roblox identifies several potential sources of Earned Robux, including game items, passes, subscriptions, Marketplace purchases and transfers, paid private servers, and other creator activity. The key practical difference is that DevEx exchanges eligible Robux already earned; local-currency paid access charges the player directly for entry under that feature’s own terms.

What to check before paying or enabling paid access
- Access and platform: confirm the experience’s purchase price and that you can buy it on desktop or web; check which devices the creator enables for play.
- What the purchase includes: distinguish access to the experience from a pass, repeatable developer product, or separate real-world product.
- Creator eligibility and payments: review Roblox’s current paid-access requirements and payment setup information, including any third-party provider steps.
- Revenue expectations: do not treat Roblox’s broad “up to 90%” monetization statement as a guaranteed feature-specific share. The applicable terms and creator eligibility matter.
- Changing rules: availability, regional or account requirements, pricing, payment arrangements, and revenue terms can change. Consult Roblox’s live documentation and terms for the current details.
