Reading said the transaction included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. The club’s statements identify Redwood as a Dogwood Football LLC subsidiary owned by Couhig and Todd Trosclair.
Who bought Reading FC?
The purchaser was Redwood Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, which Reading identified as owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. On 14 May 2025, the club announced that Redwood had completed the acquisition of all Reading FC shares after receiving EFL clearance. Couhig became chairman, and both Couhig and Trosclair joined the board. Reading FC’s completion announcement and the club’s sale-in-principle statement set out the buyer structure.
Reading said the deal included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. That describes what the club said was included in the takeover; it does not, by itself, establish the precise legal title structure for each property.
How the takeover progressed
| Date | Stage | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| September 2024 | Earlier Couhig attempt collapsed | Couhig remained a possible buyer after this attempt fell through, according to the reported account of the dispute and renewed negotiations. |
| 7 October 2024 | Reading entered exclusivity with a potential purchaser | The proposed sale was to include the club, stadium and training ground. Reading also reported an EFL registration embargo connected with late filing of its 2022–23 accounts. Reading’s update |
| 27 March 2025 | Exclusivity continued with a proposed purchaser | Reading separately described litigation involving Couhig and an impasse over security. It said late 2023/24 accounts could lead to a new transfer embargo if the EFL deadline was missed. Reading’s statement |
| 22 April 2025 | EFL extended Dai Yongge’s divestment deadline | The new deadline was 5 May 2025. The league said it continued to monitor the club’s immediate cash-flow requirements. EFL statement |
| 3 May 2025 | Sale announced in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited | Reading said the proposed transaction included the stadium and Bearwood Park. This was an announcement of an agreement in principle, not the completion date. Club announcement |
| 14 May 2025 | Acquisition completed | Following EFL clearance, Redwood acquired 100% of Reading FC’s shareholding. Club announcement |
The court rejected an injunction sought by Dai Yongge, allowing negotiations to resume, according to the reported account. The timeline shows several overlapping pressures, but the available statements do not establish that any single issue caused the delay.

What Couhig said he wanted to do
In a Guardian interview published on 19 May 2025, Couhig described stability and responsible spending as priorities, and said he wanted investment in infrastructure. He expected the team to do better on the pitch and said transfer fees would not be ruled out, but would be unusual. He also said, “My goal is always to leave a place better than I found it.” These are his stated aims, not proof of subsequent results or a binding spending policy. The Guardian interview also reported a £25 million purchase price; treat that as a reported figure, not an independently verified valuation.

On 2 January 2026, BBC Sport reported Couhig’s denial of claims that the club planned to sell its training ground or downgrade its academy. He said: “There are no plans to sell the training ground and there are no plans to downgrade the academy – both are vital parts of the club’s present and future and any suggestion otherwise is inaccurate and misleading.” BBC described the academy as Category One. This records Couhig’s position at that time; it does not establish whether his plans or the club’s status changed later. BBC Sport’s report
