On October 2, 2025, Rivian forecast 41,500–43,500 vehicle deliveries for the full year. The top of that range was about 16% below its 51,579 deliveries in 2024. That was a forecast, not the final result: Rivian later reported 42,247 deliveries for 2025, an approximately 18.1% year-over-year decline.
What Rivian forecast for 2025
Rivian’s October 2 guidance put expected full-year deliveries at 41,500–43,500 vehicles, according to TechCrunch’s report. Rivian delivered 51,579 vehicles in 2024. Comparing the forecast’s 43,500 upper bound with that 2024 figure gives a decline of about 15.7%, commonly rounded to 16%.

The full forecast range implied a larger possible decrease at its lower end: 41,500 would be about 19.5% below 2024. So “a 16% drop” describes the most favorable end of Rivian’s October forecast, not the entire range.
How the forecast changed during 2025
Rivian began the year expecting 46,000–51,000 deliveries. In May, it cut that outlook to 40,000–46,000. TechCrunch reported that the company cited “evolving trade regulation, policies, tariffs and the overall impact these items may have on consumer sentiment and demand.” That is Rivian’s stated rationale as reported at the time; it does not establish that any one factor caused the eventual delivery total.

On October 2, alongside its third-quarter results, Rivian narrowed the annual range to 41,500–43,500. Quarterly deliveries had increased from 8,640 in Q1 to 10,661 in Q2 and 13,201 in Q3. Rivian also reported producing 10,720 vehicles in Q3. Those are quarterly figures, not annual totals.
What Rivian ultimately reported
In its Q4 and full-year 2025 shareholder letter and annual report, Rivian reported 42,247 deliveries and 42,284 vehicles produced for the year. The delivery figure landed within the October forecast range, but below its 43,500 ceiling. Compared with 51,579 deliveries in 2024, 42,247 represents an approximately 18.1% decline.

Deliveries and production are distinct company-reported measures: one counts vehicles delivered to customers, the other vehicles produced. Neither should be substituted for the other when describing the annual outcome. Rivian’s filed results are available in its 2025 annual report.

How to read the “16% drop” figure
- It refers to the forecast ceiling. The 16% comparison uses 43,500 expected deliveries against 51,579 delivered in 2024.
- It was not the final annual count. Rivian later reported 42,247 deliveries for 2025.
- The comparison is about deliveries. Deliveries are not automatically equivalent to orders, retail registrations, or production.
- The stated risks are not proven causes. Rivian cited trade-policy and tariff concerns and possible consumer-demand effects when it lowered guidance in May; the figures alone do not show how much each factor affected the result.
