Rivian’s U.S. R2 Standard starts at $44,990, but its current consumer page lists it for 2027 without giving a delivery month. The R2 available now is the $57,990 Performance; the $53,990 Premium is listed for late 2026. Prices are starting prices and exclude applicable taxes and fees.
Rivian R2 prices and timing
Rivian’s current U.S. R2 page lists three trims. Its $44,990 Standard is the rounded-down-by-$10 equivalent of the “around $45,000” version in the headline, not a separately priced model. Rivian’s current page gives the Standard a 2027 timeframe, but no month. Rivian’s R2 page says prices, options, and displayed features may change; applicable taxes and fees are extra.

Prices, timing, and specifications in the table are from Rivian’s 2026 U.S. consumer listing. Rivian labels range values as estimates and notes that some are preliminary estimates based on the EPA test cycle; they should not all be treated as official EPA ratings. Real-world capability can vary with configuration, tires, drive modes, load, weather, and other conditions.
What changed about the $45,000 R2
In its March 2026 lineup announcement, Rivian described a Standard rear-wheel-drive Long Range trim at $48,490 for the first half of 2027, followed by another Standard variant starting around $45,000 in late 2027. The current consumer page now lists the entry Standard at $44,990 for 2027, without specifying a month. That current listing is the best guide to the advertised price and year; late 2027 was the more specific timing in the earlier announcement. Rivian’s March 2026 announcement also said Canadian specifications and pricing would come closer to that market’s launch, so these figures should not be assumed to apply in Canada.

What each R2 trim includes
Standard: lowest starting price, longest wait
The Standard’s base configuration is a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive vehicle with Rivian-estimated range of 275 miles and 350 hp. Rivian lists a standard interior and audio system and 19-inch all-season wheels; Long Range rear-wheel-drive and Long Range all-wheel-drive configurations are listed as options. The 275-mile figure is a manufacturer estimate, not an independent test result.
Premium: the middle price point
The $53,990 Premium is listed for late 2026. Rivian specifies dual-motor all-wheel drive, 450 hp, and 330 miles of EPA-estimated range. Listed equipment includes a premium interior, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, premium audio, rear drop glass, and 20-inch all-season wheels.

Performance: available now
The $57,990 Performance is listed as available now. Rivian specifies dual-motor all-wheel drive, 656 hp, 330 miles of EPA-estimated range, and an estimated 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. Its listed equipment includes semi-active suspension, a premium interior and audio system, rear drop glass, and 21-inch all-season wheels. Rivian’s page describes a limited-time Launch Package with a tow package, Autonomy+, a launch key fob, and an option for Launch Green paint; check the current listing for availability and configuration details.

- Choose the Standard if price is the priority. It has the lowest listed starting price, but Rivian currently lists it for 2027 and does not provide a month.
- Consider Premium if you want an earlier listed window without paying Performance pricing. Rivian lists it for late 2026 at $53,990.
- Look at Performance if you want an R2 now. It is the only trim Rivian currently lists as available, at a $57,990 starting price.
Rivian began offering the first R2 trim through invitations on June 9, 2026. The company said invitations would go out in batches; confirmed orders could be delivered in two to six weeks, subject to configuration availability and delivery scheduling. Rivian said reservation timestamp and delivery location were primary factors in invitations, with current Rivian owners and people with expiring leases also potentially receiving consideration. Those details describe the invitation process, not a delivery guarantee for every buyer.

Rivian’s 2024 SEC-filed announcement had already said R2 pricing was expected to start around $45,000. That early price positioning is historical context, not a current quote for a specific trim or delivery date. The SEC filing identifies RJ Scaringe as Rivian’s founder and CEO and quotes him describing R2 and R3 as products intended to make Rivian vehicles accessible to more people.
