A. Dylan Jadeja is Riot Games’ CEO. Riot announced in May 2023 that he would succeed Nicolo Laurent, and Jadeja’s official biography dates his start in the role to July 2023. Riot later confirmed in September that the handoff was complete. The succession was a planned leadership transition—not the same event as Riot’s later executive appointments or workforce changes.

These dates describe different points in the handoff: the May announcement, the July effective start listed in Jadeja’s biography, and Riot’s September confirmation that the transition period was over.
Who is Dylan Jadeja?
Jadeja was a longtime Riot executive, not an outside hire. Riot says he joined in 2011 as chief financial officer, added chief operating officer responsibilities in 2014, became president in 2017, and began overseeing enterprise operations in 2022. At the time Riot announced the succession, he was the company’s global president. Riot’s 2023 announcement and its leadership biographies describe that progression.
Why did Nicolo Laurent leave the CEO role?
Laurent said he planned to step away from the CEO position to focus on his family and move back to France. Riot’s announcement said he would remain with the company as an advisor. Those are the reasons and next steps Laurent and Riot gave publicly; the announcement does not establish any other motive.

Laurent had held leadership roles at Riot for 14 years, including six years as CEO, according to the succession announcement. Riot co-founder Brandon Beck welcomed the change, writing, “The future of Riot is in great hands.” Riot’s May 11, 2023 announcement
How did Riot choose Jadeja?
Riot said its succession process took about three years and considered both internal and external candidates. The company said Jadeja ranked at the top of the lists considered by the board, advisors, founders, search firm, and Laurent. What other Riot leadership changes followed?
Marc Merrill became chief product officer
In November 2023, Riot announced that co-founder Marc Merrill would become chief product officer, reporting to Jadeja and overseeing product ecosystems across games, esports, and entertainment. This was a later appointment, separate from the CEO succession. Riot’s November 2023 announcement
Riot announced workforce reductions in January 2024
In a January 22, 2024 message to employees, Jadeja said Riot planned to eliminate about 530 roles globally, around 11% of its workforce. He described the cuts alongside changes to the company’s bets and work intended to create focus and move toward sustainability. Riot’s leadership page lists Jadeja as CEO; Merrill as co-founder, co-chairman, and chief product officer; Brandon Beck as co-founder and co-chairman; Hoby Darling as president; and John Needham as president of publishing and esports. The page also lists executives in roles including chief people officer, chief financial officer, general counsel, and chief strategy officer. Executive titles can change, so the official leadership page is the place to check for the latest roster.
