Richest Darts Players of All Time: What the Prize-Money Figures Show

Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor feature prominently in historical darts-earnings coverage, but reported prize money is not verified personal net worth—and the available figures do not support a precise all-time wealth ranking.

There is no reliable public ranking of darts players by verified personal net worth. The clearest available comparison is career prize money, which is not the same as wealth: it excludes or does not account for taxes, expenses, sponsorships, appearance fees, investments, property and liabilities. On that narrower measure, Michael van Gerwen is the strongest documented name in the available figures, while Phil Taylor also repeatedly appears among the sport’s leading historical earners.

Who are the richest darts players of all time?

If “richest” means verified personal net worth, the available public evidence does not establish an all-time ranking. If it means reported career prize money, Michael van Gerwen has a particularly clear reported milestone: Sporting Life said in 2026 that he had earned more than £12 million in career prize money. That is a reported prize-money total, not an estimate of his net worth.

Phil Taylor also recurs alongside van Gerwen in historical rich-list and earnings coverage, including DartsKing’s 2025 coverage. But the material available here does not provide a comparable, consistently calculated career-prize-money total for Taylor. It would therefore be misleading to assign him a precise rank or put a guessed figure beside his name.

What the evidence supports

Player What is established What it does not establish
Michael van Gerwen Sporting Life reported in 2026 that his career prize money exceeded £12 million. His personal net worth, or a fully comparable all-organizations total.
Phil Taylor DartsKing’s 2025 rich-list coverage discusses him among the leading historical names. A comparable career-prize-money total or a verified net-worth position.

The order above reflects the specificity of the cited figures, not a proven ranking of personal fortunes. A media rich list can be useful context, but it is not an audited balance sheet.

Why prize money is not net worth

Tournament earnings show what a player has won in competitions covered by a given calculation. They do not show how much money the player still owns. A personal net-worth calculation would need reliable information about income beyond tournament prizes as well as taxes, career costs, investments, assets and debts. The cited coverage does not establish those details for these players.

“Earnings” can also mean different things. Darts Nerd’s earnings guide discusses estimates based on PDC ranking prize money over a rolling two-year period. That measure is not an all-time career total, so it should not be mixed into an all-time ranking.

Why all-time prize-money rankings are difficult to compare

Prize funds vary between competitions and have changed over time. DartsKing reported that the PDC distributed about €17 million across tournaments in 2025. Separately, the Professional Darts Corporation announced a £5 million total prize fund for the 2025/26 World Darts Championship, including a £1 million winner’s prize. These figures describe different scopes and currencies: one is tournament distribution across a calendar year, the other is the fund for a single championship season.

Those larger modern prize pools also make raw totals across eras difficult to interpret. A meaningful all-time comparison would need to use the same organization and measure for every player, state its cut-off date and currency, and say whether amounts are nominal or adjusted for inflation. The available figures do not provide that complete, consistent table.

How to read a “richest darts players” list

  • Check the measure: Is the list ranking estimated net worth, career prize money, or a rolling ranking-earnings figure?
  • Check the scope: Does it include only PDC events or earnings across organizations?
  • Check the date and currency: Prize-money totals can change, and pounds and euros are not interchangeable.
  • Look for a method: A ranking without a stated calculation should not be treated as a precise financial comparison.
  • Keep estimates separate: Media estimates of personal wealth should not be presented as tournament earnings, or vice versa.

With those distinctions in mind, the defensible takeaway is limited but useful: van Gerwen has a reported career-prize-money total above £12 million as of Sporting Life’s 2026 report, and Taylor is another recurring leading name in historical coverage. Neither fact supplies a verified ranking of the players’ personal fortunes.
