They concerned specific German automotive companies. RECARO Automotive GmbH filed for insolvency in 2024, then Proma Group announced an agreement to take over its German automotive business. BBS Autotechnik GmbH was in insolvency proceedings when KW automotive announced it had acquired relevant production assets in 2025. Those announcements show a path to continued business activity, but they do not confirm every entity’s current legal or financial status.
What happened to RECARO Automotive?
The 2024 insolvency filing
On July 30, 2024, RECARO Automotive GmbH announced that it had filed for insolvency with the Local Court of Esslingen. The company cited extreme price increases, adverse market developments and the loss of a major contract as pressures behind the filing. The filing did not cover every RECARO business
In an October 9, 2024 clarification, RECARO Automotive said the proceedings applied exclusively to RECARO Automotive GmbH in Germany, not its other named automotive units or RECARO Group businesses in aircraft seating, gaming and rail. The company said RECARO Group held no stake in RECARO Automotive and described their connection as a licensing relationship. See the company’s scope clarification.
Proma’s announced takeover
On December 4, 2024, Proma Group announced it had signed an investment agreement with RECARO Automotive GmbH in Germany to take over the business. Proma said operations would continue and relaunch across Europe in January 2025, with aftermarket seats available that month. Those were the company’s plans at the time of its announcement; the release alone does not establish the details of every later operational or legal step. Proma CEO Luca Pino said the investment would strengthen Proma’s ability to deliver premium seating and automotive innovation. What happened to BBS?
Insolvency proceedings and production assets
BBS’s case involved BBS Autotechnik GmbH, not a finding that every business or product using the BBS name had closed. On March 27, 2025, KW automotive said it owned the BBS brand and aftermarket business and had acquired relevant assets from the Schiltach and Herbolzheim plants during BBS Autotechnik GmbH’s ongoing insolvency proceedings. KW said the equipment and resources would enable a restart of BBS wheel production. This describes KW automotive’s account of its asset acquisition and production plans; it does not establish that the insolvent GmbH continued unchanged. Why the distinction matters to customers
A brand name, a legal company and a factory are not interchangeable. A German company’s insolvency filing does not by itself mean that every licensed business using the brand has failed. Nor does an investor’s agreement or an asset purchase prove that all former products, warranties, suppliers or customer services continued without interruption.

- RECARO: The 2024 filing applied to the German RECARO Automotive GmbH, according to the company’s clarification; Proma later announced an agreement to take over that business.
- BBS: KW automotive announced that it acquired relevant plant assets during BBS Autotechnik GmbH’s insolvency proceedings and intended to restart wheel production.
- What remains unconfirmed here: current solvency, exact corporate registration, supply of every legacy product, retailer inventory and the status of individual customer claims.
What the later updates establish—and what they do not
The RECARO Automotive press page lists a collaboration announcement dated April 8, 2026, as well as other 2025 activity. That indicates later company activity, but a press-release listing is not a substitute for current accounts, court records or confirmation that every product line is operating. For BBS, KW automotive’s March 2025 release establishes what KW said about its asset acquisition and the planned production restart at that point. Taken together, these announcements make it inaccurate to treat the earlier insolvency headlines as proof that both names had simply vanished. They are not enough to make an unqualified claim about either company’s present financial or legal position.

- For a RECARO seat, verify the precise model, seller, present availability and compatibility with your vehicle. The announcements do not establish current stock or fitment.
- For BBS wheels, check the specific wheel’s diameter, width, bolt pattern and offset against your vehicle and confirm current availability with the seller.
- If you have an existing order, warranty or insolvency claim, contact the responsible seller or legal entity named on your documents. A shared brand name alone does not establish which company is responsible.
