Daniel Loitz’s reported 2024 bid to buy Reading FC did not lead to a takeover. He criticised then-owner Dai Yongge and expressed concern about the stalled sale, but claims that Dai was obstructing a deal were Loitz’s allegations, not independently established findings. Reading was eventually acquired by Redwood Holdings Limited in May 2025.
What was Daniel Loitz’s bid for Reading FC?
Sky Sports reported on 18 March 2024 that German investor Daniel Loitz, a director of Hokulani Limited, had bid in January for Reading. The offer was described as being “in the region of £28m” and covering the club, stadium, training ground, and men’s and women’s teams. Sky reported that the proposed deal was on hold and that Loitz remained interested but had encountered what he called “radio silence.” Sky Sports reported the bid and Loitz’s comments on 18 March 2024.
Sky Sport Germany reported the next day that the offer was €? No: it gave the figure as £28.7 million. These are differently rounded amounts reported by two outlets, not evidence of two separate bids. Sky Sport Germany’s 19 March 2024 account also reported Loitz’s criticism of Dai.
What was Loitz’s warning about Dai Yongge?
The available reporting supports describing Loitz’s comments as criticism and concern about uncertainty in the sale process; it does not establish a separate, definitive warning sentence. Sky Sport Germany quoted Loitz alleging that Dai had put Reading up for sale the previous year but wanted to keep majority control “by any means.” Loitz also alleged that Dai was obstructing a sale. Those statements are Loitz’s account, not an independently verified finding about Dai’s motives or actions.

Sky Sport Germany reported Loitz’s further claim that required financial documents had been presented and accepted by league officials. That report did not independently establish his allegation of sabotage. Sky Sports also quoted Loitz saying he wanted to “build something sustainable to help the club find a long-term identity”; this was his stated ambition as a prospective buyer, not a description of an outcome.
Did Loitz buy Reading?
No. His reported bid did not result in him acquiring the club. Reading’s sale process continued after the 2024 talks. On 27 March 2025, the club said it remained in an exclusivity period with a proposed buyer. The proposed transaction covered Reading, Select Car Leasing Stadium, and Bearwood Park Training Facility. The club also said Dai had been disqualified as a director and was required to divest his interests. Reading FC’s 27 March 2025 statement.

The EFL said on 22 April 2025 that it had extended Dai’s deadline to divest his interests to 5 May as progress was being made on the sale. It also said it continued to monitor the club’s immediate cash-flow requirements. The EFL’s statement.
On 3 May 2025, Reading announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said the transaction included the stadium and training ground and remained subject to final legal technicalities. It identified Redwood as a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. Reading FC’s announcement.
