The April 4 deadline in the Reading FC takeover story was a reference to the club’s 2025 sale process, not a deadline still approaching. Reading said on March 27, 2025, that the EFL had extended owner Dai Yongge’s deadline to divest his shareholding until April 5. The club announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited on May 3; Reading’s current company-details page says Redwood now owns the club in its entirety.
What was the April deadline for?
It concerned Dai Yongge’s obligation to divest his shareholding in Reading FC. In a statement dated March 27, 2025, the club said the EFL had extended that deadline until Saturday, April 5, 2025. The “April 4” wording in the headline belongs to that historical period; it is not a current deadline. Reading FC’s March 27 update
What happened after the deadline?
March 27, 2025: the club warned of financial and regulatory pressure
Alongside the deadline update, Reading said it was unlikely to file its 2023/24 accounts by the EFL’s March 31 deadline and warned that a new transfer embargo would follow until the accounts issue was resolved. That was the club’s warning at the time, not a description of the club’s current status. Reading FC’s March 27 update
May 3, 2025: sale in principle announced
Reading announced that it had agreed a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said the proposed transaction included both Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. The announcement said final legal technicalities still had to be completed, so it described an agreement in principle rather than detailing every step of a completed closing.
