What changed in ARC Raiders’ pricing plan?
ARC Raiders was originally announced as free-to-play. In August 2024, Embark Studios’ game was reported to be moving to a premium, paid model. GameSpot’s report gave an announced launch price of $40 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. GameSpot’s August 20, 2024 report is the cited source for the change and the planned price.
The $40 amount describes the 2024 announcement; it should not be treated as a current price. Store prices can vary by platform, region, and edition, so check the relevant platform store before buying.
Why did Embark switch from free-to-play?
The available reporting establishes that the business model changed, but it does not establish Embark’s reason for making that decision. Without an attributable explanation from the studio or a named representative, it would be speculation to claim that development costs, monetization plans, or another factor caused the switch.

When did ARC Raiders actually launch?
NEXON announced a global PC and console release for October 30, 2025. The game is therefore already released; the 2025 date in the original pricing-change coverage was a planned release window, not an upcoming launch. NEXON’s announcement records the launch date and platform scope. The official ARC Raiders news page lists post-launch updates.
Where can you play it, and what should you check before paying?
NEXON’s launch announcement supports PC and console availability, and the PlayStation product page lists the game for PS5. For the price and edition available to you, use the store for your platform and region rather than relying on the 2024 $40 announcement. The PlayStation Store listing also says PS5 and PS Portal cloud streaming requires a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription; that note concerns streaming, not the game’s purchase price.
