The cited record does not establish new takeover drama in October 2026. The uncertainty readers may remember belongs to the 2024–25 sale process, which culminated in a sale-in-principle announcement in May 2025.
Is there a new Reading FC takeover dispute?
Not on the evidence cited here. Reading FC’s company-details page currently names Redwood Holdings Limited as the club’s entire owner and lists Couhig and Trosclair as directors. The page is the clearest available ownership record, but company ownership and directorships can change; it does not rule out a separate later court or EFL development. No dated October 2026 statement or filing in the cited sources establishes a fresh dispute.
That distinction matters: the earlier takeover process did involve regulatory deadlines, litigation and a security impasse, but those reports date from 2024 and 2025. They should not be presented as breaking news.
How the sale process unfolded
| Date and source | What was reported | Stage or significance |
|---|---|---|
| 7 October 2024 — Reading FC official statement | The club said it had agreed exclusivity with a potential purchaser. The proposed sale covered Dai Yongge’s shareholding, Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. The club also said the EFL had imposed a formal registration embargo because its 2022–23 accounts were filed late. | Exclusivity: a sale process was under way, not completed. |
| 27 March 2025 — Reading FC official statement | The club said exclusivity remained in place and described ongoing litigation with Rob Couhig and an impasse over security. It said an alternative-security proposal had been made to Couhig, and that Dai Yongge had to divest his interests after his director disqualification. | The process remained unresolved amid legal and security issues. |
| 22 April 2025 — EFL statement | The EFL said its Board had extended Dai Yongge’s divestment deadline to 5 May 2025 and continued to monitor the club’s immediate cash-flow requirements. | A regulatory deadline was extended; the EFL was also monitoring cash flow. |
| 3 May 2025 — Reading FC official statement | The club announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited, covering the club, stadium and training ground. It said formal completion remained subject to final legal technicalities and described Redwood as a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Couhig and Todd Trosclair. | Sale in principle, not a statement that all formalities were already complete. |
| Current company-details page — Reading FC company details | Redwood Holdings Limited is identified as owner of Reading Football Club Limited in its entirety; Robert Emmett Couhig Jnr and Todd Trosclair are listed as directors. | The available current ownership record, distinct from the earlier announcement. |
What “sale in principle” meant in the update
On 3 May 2025, Reading said it was “pleased to announce the sale in principle of the club to Redwood Holdings Limited.” The same announcement said formal completion was still subject to final legal technicalities. The phrase therefore described an agreed transaction subject to those remaining steps; it should not be mistaken for evidence that every legal formality had already been completed on that date.

The later company-details page provides the ownership information available here: Redwood owns the club in its entirety, and Couhig and Trosclair are directors. That record is stronger evidence of the present ownership position than treating the 2025 announcement alone as a current update.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would confirm a genuinely new development?
A new takeover dispute would need a fresh, attributable record rather than a recycled account of the older sale process. Relevant confirmation would be a dated announcement or filing from Reading FC, the EFL, Companies House, a court, or a named party involved. Until such evidence is available, the accurate description is that Reading’s past sale process was contentious, while the cited current company record lists Redwood as owner.
