Reading FC’s takeover by Redwood Holdings is complete: the club announced a sale in principle on 3 May 2025, and the deal was completed on 14 May after English Football League clearance. Former head coach Rubén Sellés’s comments about building a powerful project were made in May 2025, not in a new pledge. Later reports cover a denial of Bearwood Park sale rumours and a Royal Elm Park planning milestone, but do not establish that Redwood owns or controls that development.
Has Reading FC been taken over?
Yes. Reading FC announced on 3 May 2025 that it had agreed a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said Redwood was a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair, and that the proposed deal included the stadium and Bearwood Park training ground. Reading FC’s announcement
BBC Sport reported on 14 May 2025 that the English Football League had cleared the transaction and the takeover was complete. It covered 100% of the club’s shareholding, Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park. Couhig became chairman, and Couhig and Trosclair joined the board. BBC Sport’s completion report
That distinction matters: 3 May was the sale-in-principle announcement; 14 May was completion. The takeover is not still pending.

What did Rubén Sellés say about the new owners?
BBC Sport reported Sellés’s reaction on 3 May 2025, after the sale-in-principle announcement. The former Reading head coach said he hoped the club would be successful and that Couhig could build a powerful project with then-head coach Noel Hunt. Those remarks were a response to the proposed sale at the time, not a fresh statement about later developments. BBC Sport’s report on Sellés’s comments
In that report, Sellés also said: “My time at Reading was very difficult but one of the most amazing periods of my life with those fans, I think the feeling we created was really powerful.”

Is Reading selling Bearwood Park or downgrading its academy?
Those claims were reported as rumours, not as club plans. On 2 January 2026, BBC Sport reported Couhig’s denial that Reading intended to sell its training ground or downgrade its academy. He said: “There are no plans to sell the training ground and there are no plans to downgrade the academy – both are vital parts of the club’s present and future and any suggestion otherwise is inaccurate and misleading.” BBC Sport’s report on Couhig’s response
This establishes what Couhig said in response to the rumours; it does not establish a sale plan or a later change in policy.

What is happening with the development near the stadium?
Reading Today reported on 17 September 2026 that essential works connected with the proposed Royal Elm Park development had been approved. The report described a scheme including 600 apartments, a 246-bedroom hotel, an ice rink and a convention centre. These are proposed facilities, not completed buildings, and approval of essential works alone does not show that construction has started. Reading Today’s Royal Elm Park report
The report does not establish a link between Royal Elm Park and Redwood Holdings. It includes a councillor’s speculation about Dai Yongge’s association with the project; that should be treated as attributed, unconfirmed speculation, not proof of ownership or control.

What later coverage says about the first year
On 14 May 2026, Reading Today reported a range of supporter reactions around the first anniversary of the takeover, describing a difficult year on and off the pitch and dissatisfaction among some fans. That is local reporting of varied views, not a representative survey of Reading supporters. Reading Today’s anniversary report
