Yes. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept its policy repo rate at 5.50% when its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) announced a decision on October 1, 2025. That was a hold, not a new cut. The figure is historical: RBI material available for August 6, 2026 showed a repo rate of 5.25%, while the rate after the October 2026 MPC decision has not been confirmed here.
What did the RBI decide in October 2025?
At its meeting held September 29–October 1, 2025, the MPC left the policy repo rate at 5.50% and maintained a neutral policy stance. The Press Information Bureau’s October 1, 2025 summary reported the decision. The rate had been set at 5.50% in June; October’s decision kept it there.
How did the rate get to 5.50%?
On June 6, 2025, the MPC cut the repo rate by 50 basis points, bringing it to 5.50%. The same June decision set the Standing Deposit Facility rate at 5.25% and the Marginal Standing Facility rate and Bank Rate at 5.75%, according to the PIB’s June 6, 2025 summary. Those figures describe the June 2025 settings; they should not be read as current rates.
Is 5.50% the RBI repo rate now?
No—not on the latest date established here. The RBI’s official material showed a policy repo rate of 5.25% in an August 6, 2026 snapshot. The exact MPC decision and repo rate in effect on October 8, 2026 have not been confirmed, so 5.25% should also not be presented as definitively current on that date. Check the RBI’s official policy announcements for a later decision.

What else did the MPC report in October 2025?
The October decision’s accompanying economic projections were for FY 2025–26, as reported by the PIB on October 1, 2025. They were forecasts at that time, not realized results or current projections.
- Real GDP growth: 6.8%, revised up from 6.5%.
- CPI inflation: 2.6%, revised down from 3.1%.
- Current account deficit: 0.2% of GDP in Q1 FY 2025–26, compared with 0.9% a year earlier.
What does a repo-rate hold mean for a home-loan EMI?
The repo rate is part of the RBI’s monetary-policy transmission system. The RBI describes its operating framework as using liquidity management to align the weighted average call rate with the policy repo rate; that operating target influences aggregate demand, which in turn affects inflation and growth. A hold therefore does not guarantee an immediate or identical change in every bank’s lending or deposit rates.
For your own home loan, check the loan’s benchmark, rate-reset terms and any notice from your lender. Those terms determine how a policy move may feed through to your interest rate and EMI; an RBI announcement alone does not establish what will happen to an individual loan.
