The airline announced that it had stopped flying in the state on August 14, 2025; the City of Homer records August 5, 2025, as the date the company ceased all operations. The announcement did not give a reason for the shutdown.
When did Ravn Alaska stop flying?
There are two dates in the record. The City of Homer’s airport page lists August 5, 2025, as the date Ravn ceased all operations. The airline’s closure became public on August 14, when it announced it was no longer operating flights in Alaska. Alaska’s News Source reported that the announcement did not explain when the airline had stopped flying or why.
On August 15, Alaska Public Media and KUCB also reported that Ravn was closing effective immediately. That coverage described route reductions and layoffs preceding the closure, but does not establish a stated reason for the shutdown.
Why did Ravn Alaska close?
The August 2025 announcement did not state why Ravn stopped operating. The contemporaneous report by Alaska’s News Source reproduced the company’s statement: “We appreciate the years of service we were able to provide to Alaska communities. While we are no longer operating flights in Alaska, we’re grateful for the trust you placed in us during our time serving the region.” It did not name an individual speaker or provide an explanation for the closure.

Earlier route changes and layoffs are part of the timeline, but the available contemporaneous coverage does not identify them as the company’s stated cause. They should not be treated as proof of a specific reason.
What happened before the statewide shutdown?
- March 3, 2025: Ravn ended service to Homer, according to the City of Homer airport page.
- December 10, 2024 notice: New Pacific Airlines, doing business as Ravn Alaska, filed a notice with the U.S. Department of Transportation of its intent to end unsubsidized scheduled service between Anchorage and Unalakleet on April 29, 2025, or sooner. This was a notice about one route, not an announcement of a statewide closure.
- August 5, 2025: The City of Homer records this as the date Ravn ceased all operations.
- August 14–15, 2025: The airline publicly announced it was no longer operating flights in Alaska, followed by regional coverage of the closure.
The Unalakleet filing is a route-specific notice published by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It should not be confused with the later statewide cessation.
Is the 2025 closure the same as Ravn’s 2020 shutdown?
No. RavnAir Group suspended service in April 2020 during the COVID-19 period; that was a separate event from the 2025 end of operations. In response to the 2020 suspension, Alaska Airlines said it would maintain service to communities it already served, continue Kodiak service with its own aircraft, advance seasonal service to King Salmon and Dillingham, and work on service to Cold Bay. Those were measures discussed in 2020, not a replacement plan for Ravn’s 2025 closure. See Alaska Airlines’ April 6, 2020 statement.

The available closure reports and airport information do not provide a verified refund process or a current, complete list of replacement carriers and schedules. If you had a Ravn booking or need to travel a route it served, check your booking records and contact the seller or payment provider about the transaction, then verify current options directly with carriers and the airport serving your destination. Confirm the exact airport, travel dates, and whether a listed option is scheduled service or charter; availability can vary by community and date.

The City of Homer airport page is useful for Homer-specific information, but its local record does not establish service availability elsewhere in Alaska. Do not assume another airline took over a Ravn route without checking a current schedule.
