Joondalup councillor Nige Jones submitted a travel-expense claim that included an alcoholic drink bought at Adelaide’s Crazy Horse Revue during City-funded travel in August 2025. The City did not reimburse the drink, according to ABC News. The City nevertheless found that the claim and his attendance at the venue fell short of the standards expected of a council member.
What was claimed—and what was paid
Jones attended a conference in Adelaide on City-funded travel. An expense claim dated 26 August 2025 included an alcoholic beverage purchased at the Crazy Horse Revue, an adult entertainment venue. The available reporting does not state the drink’s cost.
Submitting the receipt did not mean ratepayers ultimately paid for the drink: ABC News reported that the City did not reimburse that expense. The issue was that Jones submitted it as part of a council travel claim, and the City considered both the claim and his attendance at the establishment inconsistent with the conduct standards expected of a councillor.
What Jones said happened
Jones said he went out looking for a drink after restless sleep, did not know Adelaide’s central business district, and realised where he was after a dancer appeared. He said he finished the beer quickly and left, describing the episode as “a genuine mistake.” Those details are Jones’s account as reported by ABC, not independently established findings.

The City’s finding and required response
On 13 November 2025, the City found that Jones had not met the standards expected of a council member. It required him to complete an “education course on ethical decision making” and provide a written reflection within 30 days. ABC reported that Jones said he had submitted the reflection and booked the course.
Joondalup Mayor Daniel Kingston said the behaviour “falls far short of the standards our community expects and deserves from its elected representatives.” That statement was Kingston’s response as mayor; the City’s formal finding was that the claim and attendance did not meet the expected standards.
