In February 2025, Bloomberg reported that payments fintech Rapyd was in talks to raise $300 million at a proposed $3.5 billion valuation. That would be well below the approximately $9 billion valuation reported for the company in 2021—but the February report described negotiations, not a completed funding round.

What Bloomberg reported about Rapyd’s proposed financing

Bloomberg reported in 2025 that Rapyd was seeking $300 million at a $3.5 billion valuation. The report said some of the proceeds were intended to fund an acquisition of a payment-processing startup, but did not identify the target. The reported amount, valuation and acquisition plan were proposed terms; they do not establish that investors and Rapyd reached a final agreement.

How the proposed valuation compares with Rapyd’s 2021 valuation

The proposed $3.5 billion figure was described as lower than Rapyd’s approximately $9 billion valuation in 2021, according to TechCrunch’s February 2025 account of the earlier valuation. The comparison is between a reported valuation from 2021 and a proposed valuation in financing talks reported in 2025—not two confirmed completed financing outcomes. A valuation alone also does not show how much cash the company ultimately raised or what terms investors agreed to.

Did Rapyd complete the $300 million funding round?

The cited February 2025 coverage does not confirm that Rapyd closed the proposed round. TechCrunch reported that Rapyd had not publicly reported the financing at the time of its article. The available reports also do not establish a final amount, final valuation, or whether the contemplated acquisition happened. They therefore do not resolve Rapyd’s current valuation or the outcome of the reported talks.

What Rapyd does—and why acquisition funding may matter

Rapyd provides business financial services through an API, including payments, mobile wallets, money transfers, card issuing and fraud protection. Bloomberg’s report said the proposed financing was intended in part to support an acquisition in payment processing. Because the report did not name the target or establish that a deal occurred, it is not possible to determine what capabilities or assets Rapyd might have sought to add.

Earlier financing and acquisition context

TechCrunch reported in 2025 that Rapyd paid $100 million for Valitor in 2022 and $610 million for PayU units in 2023. Those reported acquisition figures provide context for the company’s past expansion, but they do not confirm the separate acquisition contemplated in Bloomberg’s 2025 financing report.

TechCrunch also attributed a 2023 statement to Rapyd CEO and co-founder Arik Shtilman: “in [the] final stages of closing a new financing round of $700 million.” That was a separate earlier financing. TechCrunch said it was unclear whether it was secured and, if so, at what valuation; the statement should not be treated as confirmation that the round closed.
