Rakuten Securities is a legitimate brokerage brand, not a forex scam. The name is associated with regulated companies in the Rakuten group, including Rakuten Securities, Inc. in Japan. But that does not mean every website, app, or person using the Rakuten name is genuine—or that every customer receives the same protections.

The important question is not simply whether “Rakuten Securities” is real. It is which Rakuten legal entity will hold your account, which regulator supervises it, and whether that entity accepts residents of your country. Forex protection, leverage limits, compensation arrangements, available platforms, and fees can differ substantially by jurisdiction.

Rakuten Securities: the short verdict

Question Answer
Is Rakuten Securities a real broker? Yes. Rakuten Securities, Inc. is an established Japanese securities and forex brokerage within the Rakuten group.
Is it regulated? Yes, the relevant Rakuten company is regulated in the jurisdiction where it operates. Check the entity named in your account agreement rather than relying on the brand name.
Is it a guaranteed-safe forex broker? No. Regulation reduces some firm and conduct risks, but it cannot prevent trading losses, slippage, market gaps, or platform outages.
Can anyone worldwide open an account? No. Eligibility depends on residence, local law, and the specific Rakuten entity.
Is forex trading at Rakuten risk-free? No. Retail forex normally involves leverage, and a relatively small market move can produce a large loss.

For a Japanese customer using the official Rakuten Securities, Inc. service, the broker is a mainstream, regulated financial firm—not an anonymous offshore website. For someone approached by a supposed Rakuten representative through WhatsApp, Telegram, social media, or an unfamiliar domain, the answer may be very different.

Who owns Rakuten Securities?

Rakuten Securities is part of the broader Rakuten group, the Japanese internet-services and financial-services conglomerate. Rakuten Securities, Inc. provides securities and foreign-exchange services in Japan and has operated as an established domestic brokerage rather than as a newly created trading website.

4X Trading Journal for Day Traders | Trade Log Book for Stocks, Forex, Options, Crypto | 12 Week Plan with 80 Trades | Trading Accessories | Neuroscience Based with Guided Trading Plan | Traders Gift
  • BUILT FOR YOUR MARKET, FUTURES, STOCKS, FOREX, OPTIONS & CRYPTO: 4X is a mindset and process journal, not a strategy tool tied to one instrument. The plan, the trade log, the deep dive and the weekly review work the same whether you trade ES, EURUSD, SPY or BTC. Traders use it across all five markets every day.
  • THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. Weekly reviews now grouped with each week's trades, so no more flipping back and forth. Crisp, darker print that's easy on the eyes after hours on a screen. A Quick-Start QR that scans straight to step-by-step instructions.
  • NOT A NOTEBOOK, A COMPLETE 12-WEEK SYSTEM: Start with a one-time 9-part Trading Plan (your market, setups, risk rules and discipline checklist). Then twelve identical weeks: five Daily Logs, five Deep Dive trade pages, and a two-page Weekly Review. 189 guided pages, roughly 80 trades. Guided prompts walk you through every step. You never stare at a blank page.
  • RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.
  • BUILT TO LAST, ARRIVES GIFT-READY: Vegan-leather hardcover, 100gsm bleed-resistant paper, two ribbon markers and an elastic closure band. Bound to lay flat so you're not fighting the spine while you write. 189 pages, 5.75" x 8.5", carries in a bag. Ships in a premium gift box: the gift every trader in your life actually wants.

That corporate connection is useful background, but it is not itself proof that a particular account is authentic. Fraudsters routinely copy the names, logos, registration details, and addresses of genuine brokers.

Which regulator supervises Rakuten Securities?

Rakuten Securities, Inc. in Japan is overseen by Japan’s Financial Services Agency framework and is registered with Japan’s local financial regulator as a financial instruments business. It is also associated with Japan’s financial-industry self-regulatory framework for forex and securities businesses.

Other companies using the Rakuten Securities name may be separately incorporated and supervised. A review should therefore avoid treating Japanese regulation as universal. The legal entity shown on the application, terms of business, and regulatory register is the one that matters.

Before depositing money, check all four items:

  1. Exact company name: do not stop at “Rakuten.”
  2. Regulator and licence or registration record: search the regulator’s own register, not a link supplied by a salesperson.
  3. Official domain: type the broker’s address manually or reach it through the main Rakuten corporate site.
  4. Payment beneficiary: funds should not be sent to an employee’s personal account, a cryptocurrency wallet, or an unrelated company.

How to spot a Rakuten Securities impersonation scam

The genuine broker and a fake website can look almost identical. Warning signs include:

  • a promise of guaranteed profits or “no-loss” trading;
  • an unsolicited investment offer through WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, or a dating app;
  • pressure to deposit immediately to unlock a bonus;
  • requests for a tax, insurance payment, verification charge, or recovery fee before a withdrawal;
  • instructions to install remote-access software on your computer or phone;
  • a domain that adds words such as “pro,” “global,” “investment,” or “secure” to the Rakuten name;
  • bank details that do not match the legal entity in the client agreement.

A particularly common fraud pattern is a fake dashboard showing profitable trades. The displayed balance is not evidence that the account exists. The test is whether the firm can be independently verified and whether a small withdrawal works without an extra payment.

What can you trade?

The product range depends on the country and entity. Rakuten Securities’ Japanese business is known for securities services and retail foreign exchange, including domestic FX products. Some Rakuten-branded businesses in other markets have offered spot forex and contracts for difference, while others may not accept new customers or may offer a different range.

Do not assume that opening a Rakuten securities account gives access to every Rakuten product. A Japanese securities account, a domestic FX account, an overseas CFD account, and a banking account are separate products with separate terms.

Forex customers should also confirm whether they are trading:

  • margin FX: a leveraged foreign-exchange contract, generally without taking delivery of the currency;
  • CFDs: leveraged contracts tracking an underlying market, which may include currencies, indices, shares, or commodities; or
  • spot currency conversion: a non-leveraged exchange service, which is a different product entirely.

Fees and trading costs

A broker advertising commission-free forex is not offering cost-free trading. The main cost may be included in the bid-ask spread, with other charges applying in particular circumstances.

Cost What to check
Spread Compare the typical spread, not only the minimum spread. Spreads can widen around news, market openings, and illiquid periods.
Overnight financing Positions held after the broker’s daily rollover time may incur swap or financing charges. These can be debits or, in some cases, credits.
Currency conversion Depositing, withdrawing, or trading in a currency different from your account currency can create an exchange-rate margin or bank charge.
Deposit and withdrawal fees Check both the broker’s fee and the fee charged by your bank or payment provider.
Inactivity or account fees Read the current schedule. These terms can differ by entity and account type.
Guaranteed-stop fees If available, a guaranteed stop may have a separate premium or wider execution cost.

Use the exact fee schedule for your country. A fee page for Japan should not be used to estimate costs for an overseas entity, and an old comparison article may describe an account type that is no longer offered.

Leverage and the real risk of forex trading

Leverage allows a trader to control a position larger than the cash deposited. That magnifies both gains and losses. For example, with 20:1 leverage, a $1,000 margin deposit can support a notional position of about $20,000. A 1% adverse move in that position represents roughly $200 before spread, financing, and execution costs.

That example is not a prediction or a recommended position size. It illustrates why a broker’s maximum leverage is not a benefit by itself. Lower leverage can make it harder to overexpose an account.

Important failure modes include:

  • Slippage: a stop order may execute at a worse price during a fast market or price gap.
  • Stop-out: the broker may close positions when available equity falls below its required margin level.
  • Spread widening: a position that appears safe under normal spreads may approach a stop-out during volatile conditions.
  • Overnight charges: holding a trade for weeks can materially change its result even if the exchange rate moves in the expected direction.
  • Connectivity problems: a lost internet connection or platform outage can prevent timely order management.

Read the broker’s risk disclosure before opening an account. Retail forex is not a savings product, and no regulated broker can remove market risk.

Platforms and order execution

Rakuten Securities customers may receive a proprietary trading platform or a third-party platform depending on the relevant service. Confirm the platform before depositing, then check whether it supports the order types you actually use: market orders, limit orders, stop orders, trailing stops, alerts, and partial closing.

Do not assume that a stop-loss guarantees the exact stop price. A stop normally becomes a market order when triggered. If the market gaps through the trigger, the fill can be materially worse. Test the demo environment, but remember that demo execution and live liquidity can differ.

Opening and funding an account

The application process generally involves identity verification, proof of residence, tax information, and questions about trading experience and financial circumstances. A regulated broker may reject an application or restrict products if the information does not satisfy its onboarding requirements.

Before funding, follow this sequence:

  1. Start at the official Rakuten website for your country.
  2. Record the complete legal name of the contracting entity.
  3. Read the client agreement, product disclosure, margin rules, and withdrawal terms.
  4. Confirm the permitted deposit methods and the name of the receiving account.
  5. Make a small initial deposit.
  6. Place a small trade only after checking the spread, margin calculation, and order controls.
  7. Request a small withdrawal before committing more capital.

A legitimate compliance review can delay a withdrawal, particularly when bank details, identity documents, or source-of-funds information do not match. That is different from a demand to pay an invented “release fee” to access your own money.

Advantages and disadvantages

Potential advantages Potential disadvantages
Established Rakuten group brand Different entities and product terms can cause confusion
Regulated Japanese brokerage operation Regulation and compensation depend on the contracting entity
Access to forex and other investment services in eligible markets Forex leverage can produce rapid losses
Established local payment and support infrastructure for domestic customers Non-Japanese residents may not be eligible for the Japanese service
Potentially competitive spreads or commissions Spreads, swaps, conversion costs, and slippage still reduce returns

Is Rakuten Securities suitable for you?

It may suit a customer who lives in an eligible jurisdiction, wants a regulated local broker, understands leveraged forex, and is comfortable checking the exact product terms.

It is a poor fit if you need guaranteed returns, cannot afford to lose the deposited capital, want a simple long-term savings account, or are being directed to the broker by an unverified online “account manager.” It is also unsuitable to assume that a Japanese Rakuten account is available to residents of another country.

What to do if you suspect a scam

  1. Stop sending money and do not pay a further fee to recover funds.
  2. Save emails, chat logs, phone numbers, wallet addresses, bank details, and screenshots.
  3. Contact your bank or card provider immediately and ask whether a payment can be recalled.
  4. Change passwords and enable two-factor authentication if you shared login information.
  5. Report the suspected firm to your local financial regulator and police or cybercrime reporting service.
  6. Contact Rakuten through contact details found independently on its official website—not through the suspicious message.

Does Rakuten Securities accept U.S. customers?

Do not assume that it does. Eligibility is entity-specific and cross-border forex rules are strict. U.S. residents should check the official current country list and should not open an account through an unofficial overseas site.

Is Rakuten Securities regulated by the FCA?

The Japanese Rakuten Securities business is not made FCA-regulated merely because it is part of an international group. Check the specific company named in your agreement and search that company in the relevant regulator’s register.

Can I lose more than I deposit trading forex at Rakuten Securities?

The answer depends on the product, client classification, and legal entity. Margin rules and negative-balance protections are not universal. Read the applicable risk disclosure and margin agreement; never rely on a general statement about the Rakuten brand.

Does Rakuten Securities guarantee profits?

No legitimate broker can guarantee profits. Any person promising fixed returns, risk-free forex, or guaranteed withdrawals while using the Rakuten name should be treated as a likely fraud risk.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Rakuten Securities is a legitimate brokerage brand, especially in its established Japanese operation, but “legitimate” does not mean risk-free or universally available. The decisive checks are the exact contracting entity, regulator, country eligibility, fee schedule, leverage rules, and withdrawal process. If an alleged Rakuten representative contacted you unexpectedly or asks for an extra payment before releasing funds, stop communicating through that channel and verify the firm independently.
