What to verify before buying
- Product identity: Ask for the manufacturer, exact model number, and a manual that matches the unit being sold.
- Independent performance evidence: Look for reproducible tests that explain the equipment, test conditions, and results—not only broad claims such as “360-degree detection.”
- Written return and warranty terms: Confirm who handles returns, how to initiate one, whether return shipping is your responsibility, and what the warranty covers.
- Fit and installation: Check the required power connection, cable length, mounting method, and whether those details suit your vehicle.
- Local legality: Check the current rules for every place you drive before using a detector.
Radar-detector laws vary by jurisdiction
Do not assume a detector is legal everywhere or prohibited everywhere. Virginia Code §46.2-1079 makes it unlawful to operate a motor vehicle on Virginia highways when equipped with a device to detect or interfere with law-enforcement speed-measurement equipment, and separately prohibits using such a device on those highways. That is a Virginia rule, not a nationwide summary. Check current law in each jurisdiction where you plan to drive. Virginia Code §46.2-1079
