Life Electric Vehicles Holdings (Life EV) bought selected Rad Power Bikes assets in a court-approved bankruptcy sale that closed on February 27, 2026. The reported cash consideration was $13,276,102; the reported total purchase price, including liabilities, was $14,926,706. The deal was an asset acquisition—not a straightforward purchase of the former company and all its obligations.

Who bought Rad Power Bikes, and did the sale close?

Life EV won the bankruptcy auction for selected Rad Power Bikes assets. The acquisition closed on February 27, 2026, after the bankruptcy court approved the sale. The buyer’s SEC filing dates the asset purchase agreement January 22 and the sale order January 30. Bicycle Retailer and Industry News confirmed the closing on March 6; an earlier report had described approval as still pending.

Rad Power Bikes entered Chapter 11 in December 2025 and pursued a sale through a bankruptcy auction. Life EV’s successful bid followed competition from four other companies. Retrospec, doing business as Xander Bicycle Corporation, was reported as the backup bidder in the January auction coverage. That report quoted Rad Power’s spokesperson saying the proposed transaction was not final until court approval—a qualification that no longer applies now that the sale has closed.

How much did Life EV pay?

The reported cash bid was $13,276,102, or about $13.2 million. The reported total purchase price was $14,926,706, or about $14.9 million, when liabilities were included. These are different measures of the transaction, not conflicting sale prices. The January auction report and March closing report both gave the figures; the earlier report came before court approval, while the later one confirmed completion. What did the buyer acquire?

Life EV acquired selected assets through a bankruptcy sale under Section 363, rather than buying the old operating company wholesale. In its SEC filing, the buyer describes the acquired assets as including the Rad brand and intellectual property, inventory, operating infrastructure, digital systems, retail operations, and customer data. The filing is the buyer’s account of the transaction scope, not independent legal advice. Life EV’s SEC filing

The filing says Life EV assumed gift-card obligations and only specified warranty obligations identified in the purchase agreement and court sale order. It says other liabilities were not assumed under the transaction’s terms. That distinction matters: the sale did not automatically make the new owner responsible for every debt, promise, or service obligation associated with the former business.

What does the sale mean for Rad customers?

Retail and the brand

Life EV said U.S. retail operations would continue under the Rad Power Bikes brand and that post-closing customer programs would include honoring certain warranties and gift cards, subject to the purchase agreement. The statement does not promise that every prior customer obligation will be covered. The closing announcement describes the buyer’s stated plans.

Older warranties and service

Rad Power’s warranty page says the new owner is not obligated to provide warranty coverage or service for products purchased before December 15, 2025. It says any upgrade or service policy for those products would be discretionary and announced separately. Customers with older purchases should therefore check the current policy and any specific communication about their product rather than assume the original warranty transferred. What the buyer’s historical customer figures do—and do not—show

Life EV’s SEC filing says the acquired historical records included approximately 1.5 million U.S. customer accounts and approximately 250,000 Canadian customer accounts. These are company-reported historical account counts, not a count of active customers. The filing also cites approximately $1.2 billion in cumulative historical Rad Power Bikes sales data; it explicitly distinguishes those historical results from Rad Life revenue or operating results. These figures provide context about the records and brand’s history, but they are not evidence of the new owner’s current customer base or sales.

What Life EV says it plans to do

Jim Brown, Life EV president, said: “This marks an important new chapter for the Rad Power Bikes brand. We respect the foundation that has been built and are committed to strengthening operations, enhancing product development, and supporting the rider community for the long term.” The statement signals the buyer’s stated intentions; it does not by itself guarantee a particular product, service, or warranty outcome.
