Angelina “Angy” Smith became Rad Power Bikes’ CEO in December 2025, as the Seattle e-bike seller entered Chapter 11. The company’s bankruptcy filing and the later sale of the Rad brand are separate events: Life EV completed a court-approved purchase of the brand and selected assets in March 2026, but that alone does not establish that the debtor’s bankruptcy case has ended.
Who is the new CEO of Rad Power Bikes?
Angelina “Angy” Smith took over as CEO earlier in December 2025, after serving as Rad’s chief financial officer since April, according to GeekWire’s December 29 report. Smith has held finance and executive roles at companies including TrovaTrip, Thrive Causemetics, glassybaby, and Zulily. She replaced Kathi Lentzsch, who had taken over in March 2025.
Bicycle Retailer and Industry News also reported Smith’s promotion from CFO while Rad reduced its executive roster during Chapter 11. The publication characterized her appointment as Rad’s fourth CEO in three years. Its account places founder Mike Radenbaugh in the role from 2007 to 2022, followed by Phil Molyneux from 2022 to 2025 and then Lentzsch in 2025.
When did Rad Power Bikes file for bankruptcy?
Rad Power Bikes Inc. filed for Chapter 11 on December 15, 2025, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington. The case number is 25-02183. A December 16 court order directed that Rad’s case be jointly administered with Summit Collective Inc.’s case, number 25-02182, under the Summit lead case for procedural purposes. Joint administration is an administrative arrangement; it does not mean the companies merged into a single debtor.

Why did Rad Power Bikes file for Chapter 11?
Rad’s debtor filing described an urgent cash shortage. In a motion seeking permission to use cash collateral, the debtors said they needed access to that cash to fund ordinary operations and administer their Chapter 11 cases. The motion warned: “Without the use of Cash Collateral, the Debtors will not have sufficient liquidity to operate their business, will be unable to fund ordinary course expenditures, or to pay the expenses necessary to administer their chapter 11 cases.” That is the debtors’ statement in a court filing, not a separate court finding.
The same motion traced the problem to a sharp rise in e-bike demand during the pandemic, followed by slower sales and excess inventory. The debtors said Rad experienced an “almost 300% increase in demand” by May 2020; they described demand slowing by mid-2022 and inventory taking years to sell, with continuing holding costs.
Financial figures reported by Bicycle Retailer and Industry News from the bankruptcy filing give a sense of the strain, but should be read as figures disclosed in the filing rather than independent audited results:

What changed after the Chapter 11 filing?
Life EV announced on March 5, 2026, that it had completed a court-approved acquisition of the Rad brand, intellectual property, inventory, and certain operating assets. The announcement said Life EV would continue U.S. retail under the Rad name. Rad’s current ownership page says the new ownership began February 27, 2026, so the date of the ownership transition stated by the company precedes the public completion announcement.
This was an asset acquisition, not evidence that Life EV acquired every liability of Rad Power Bikes Inc. or that the debtor’s Chapter 11 case concluded. Life EV CEO Rob Provost said, “Rad Power Bikes has helped define the e-bike category in North America with its innovative products and passionate rider community.”
| Phase | What it refers to | Key date or status |

What happens to an existing Rad bike’s warranty?
Rad’s current warranty page says RLM has no obligation to provide warranty or service for products purchased before December 15, 2025, while noting that it may consider discretionary upgrade policies or services. That means riders with older purchases should not assume that the pre-sale warranty or support arrangement carries over unchanged. Check the current Rad warranty page and the terms applicable to the specific purchase before relying on coverage; the posted policy may change.
