Qantas’s Airbus A350-1000ULR is no longer expected to arrive in 2026. The airline’s current fleet information says the first aircraft is planned for delivery in April 2027, and its FY26 investor presentation schedules the first three deliveries for April, May and June 2027. The first aircraft’s June 2026 test flight was a separate milestone—not airline delivery or the start of passenger service. Qantas plans to begin daily nonstop Sydney–London flights in October 2027, subject to certification and regulatory approvals.
When is the Qantas A350-1000 coming?
Qantas currently lists April 2027 for delivery of its first A350-1000ULR, the ultra-long-range aircraft selected for Project Sunrise. The airline’s FY26 investor presentation schedules the first three aircraft for delivery in April, May and June 2027. Those are planned delivery months, not guarantees of when each aircraft will enter passenger service.
The earlier expectation was different. In November 2025, Qantas said the first aircraft was scheduled for late 2026 and commercial service was expected in the first half of 2027. By June 2026, Airbus reported that the second aircraft was scheduled for delivery in April 2027; Qantas’s current fleet page and FY26 presentation now give the later schedule. See Qantas’s A350 Project Sunrise page, its FY26 investor presentation, and Airbus’s June 2026 announcement.
Flight, delivery and service are different milestones
- First flight: Airbus’s first Qantas aircraft, MSN 707, flew in Toulouse on 2 June 2026, beginning testing of the aircraft and its modifications.
- Airline delivery: Qantas currently plans to receive the first aircraft in April 2027.
- Passenger service: Qantas plans daily Sydney–London service from October 2027, subject to certification and regulatory approvals.
A test flight confirms that flight testing has begun; it does not mean the aircraft has been delivered to Qantas, certified for passenger operations or placed into commercial service.

What is the A350-1000ULR, and why is Qantas ordering it?
The A350-1000ULR is the ultra-long-range version of Airbus’s A350-1000, chosen by Qantas for Project Sunrise. Qantas announced the project in 2017 to pursue direct flights from eastern Australia to London and New York, and ordered 12 aircraft in May 2022. The intended routes are nonstop Sydney–London and Sydney–New York services, with flights planned to last as long as 22 hours.
Airbus says the ULR’s rear centre tank holds 20,000 litres and increases the standard A350-1000’s range by 1,000 nautical miles. The aircraft also has a modified fuel system, changes to galley air-cooling for very long flights and two Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. These are Airbus’s design and range claims, not a guarantee of a particular route’s operating performance.

- Size and material: This 1/400 aircraft model is 6.30×5.71×1.85 inches in size, and the package is equipped with a display aircraft stand. The fuselage of the Airbus A380 Lufthansa aircraft model is made of high-quality resin, and the belly wings and tail are made of metal die-casting. The structure is sturdy and not easy to damage, and can be stored for a long time without fear of minor collisions.
- Prebuilt landing gear: The 1/400 aircraft model has added a new design of the landing gear part. The bracket part is restored and simulated according to the real aircraft, and the pulley part needs to be installed separately. There is a recessed card slot for installing the landing gear on the belly, which can be disassembled according to personal preference. The card slot tends to be invisible design, and removing the wheel will not affect the display of the aircraft model.
- Painting improvement: The aircraft model restores the appearance of a real aviation aircraft, and the surface is paint and UV coating. The problem of paint peeling has been optimized and it is not easy to fade. Compared with aircraft model stickers, it will look more real.
- Entertainment and collectibles: The newly added assembly wheel design adds fun and interactivity to the model. The airplane model A380 can be used as a desktop ornament, and is also suitable for model enthusiasts to collect, or as a creative gift for aviation fans, to meet the needs of different scenarios.
- Worry-free purchase: Because the wheels of this airplane model can be removed, you need to be careful not to eat it by mistake. QIYUMOKE airplane models pay attention to product quality issues. If there are any quality problems with the A380 model plane, we will solve it for you within 24 hours, and we are committed to making good models and improving customer satisfaction.
The first aircraft’s initial flight lasted three hours and 43 minutes, reached slightly above 41,000 feet and began a two-month test campaign for the modifications, according to Airbus’s flight announcement and its MSN 707 testing account. Airbus test flight engineer Laurent Rossignol described the responsibility of testing the production aircraft: “You are sitting inside the actual product. The customer is trusting us with their future flagship. Every switch we flip, every check we carry out, every manoeuvre we perform has to be executed with the passenger experience and operational reliability in mind.”
What routes are planned, and when will tickets go on sale?
Qantas says daily nonstop Sydney–London flights are planned to start in October 2027, with tickets expected to go on sale in February 2027. The airline also identifies Sydney–New York as a Project Sunrise route, but the sources available do not establish that route’s launch date, final timetable or exact launch sequence. Fares and final schedules have not been stated.

What remains uncertain before the first flight with passengers
The first aircraft has started flight testing, but the delivery and service dates remain plans. Certification and regulatory approvals are conditions of Qantas’s planned passenger operations. The cabin configuration is also subject to change. Qantas has not yet published final Sydney–New York schedules or fares, so neither should be inferred from the aircraft’s range or seat plan.
For travellers considering the future nonstop service against a one-stop itinerary, the useful comparison will be the total journey time, route availability and cabin options once schedules and fares are published. Aircraft specifications alone cannot establish which option will be cheaper or more comfortable.
