The Aadhaar PVC Card and the regular Aadhaar letter are equally valid; the PVC version is a smaller, more durable physical format, not an upgrade in Aadhaar validity. UIDAI’s official PVC-card service charges ₹75, including taxes and Speed Post, for requests made from 1 January 2026. You can order through UIDAI’s official website or the myAadhaar service and track the request through dispatch and delivery.
Is the Aadhaar PVC Card different from the regular Aadhaar?
They differ in format and convenience, not in validity. UIDAI says the Aadhaar PVC Card, Aadhaar letter, e-Aadhaar and Aadhaar App are equally valid and acceptable. The PVC card is compact and durable; the Aadhaar letter is laminated paper. Choose based on whether you want a physical card that is easier to carry, not because it carries greater legal or identity value. UIDAI’s Aadhaar services and PVC-card FAQ describe the options.
Features of the PVC card
UIDAI lists a digitally signed secure QR code and features including microtext, issue and print dates, an embossed Aadhaar logo, a ghost image and a guilloche pattern. UIDAI’s current materials do not support treating a hologram as a current feature; its circular listings include a notice discontinuing the Aadhaar PVC hologram. UIDAI circulars.
Around 6.08 crore Aadhaar PVC cards had been printed and dispatched by 31 March 2025, according to UIDAI’s Annual Report 2024–25. That is a historical total through the stated date, not a current-to-date figure. UIDAI Annual Report 2024–25.

The PVC card is optional. If you need Aadhaar digitally or already have the letter, ordering plastic does not make the identity more valid. If you want a compact physical version, you can also use a generic card sleeve for portability; it is not required, endorsed by UIDAI, or a change to the card’s validity or security.
What is the Aadhaar PVC Card charge in 2026?
The current official charge is ₹75, inclusive of taxes and Speed Post, effective 1 January 2026. UIDAI’s Logistics Division memorandum dated 12 December 2025 revised the previous ₹50 rate in response to increased material, printing, secure-delivery and logistics costs. Some older UIDAI documents still mention ₹50. There is also an inconsistency on the current PVC-card FAQ: its charges answer states ₹75, but a payment-method paragraph retains the old ₹50 figure. Use the later-dated memorandum and the updated charge answer for the amount due, and check the amount displayed in the official payment flow before paying. UIDAI PVC-card FAQ.

For the registered-mobile route, enter your Aadhaar number, 16-digit VID or 28-digit enrolment ID, complete the security code, and request an OTP or use TOTP if available. Enter the OTP or TOTP and continue to payment. UIDAI’s FAQ lists credit or debit card, net banking and UPI as payment methods; because its payment section retains an outdated fee line, confirm the current amount shown in the official payment flow.

If you do not have access to the registered mobile number, UIDAI describes an alternate/non-registered mobile route. Select the applicable checkbox and provide the alternate number. Preview is unavailable on this route; follow the current prompts on UIDAI’s official service.

Save the digitally signed receipt and the 14-digit Service Request Number (SRN). UIDAI says it sends an SMS with the airway-bill (AWB) number after dispatch; use that number to track the Speed Post shipment.

The card is sent by Speed Post to the address in Aadhaar records. UIDAI says it hands the printed card to the Department of Posts within five working days, excluding the request date. That is the handover time, not a guaranteed end-to-end delivery window; final arrival follows India Post Speed Post norms.

What if the Aadhaar details need correction?
Update the Aadhaar details first and wait for the update to succeed, then place the PVC-card order. The card is sent to the address recorded in Aadhaar, so ordering before an address correction is complete may result in delivery to the old address.
