The report said 11 staff were made redundant and clients discharged. The $193.99 metropolitan OT limit discussed in that story applied to the 2024–25 arrangements; it is not a verified current rate.
What happened to Purple Patch Therapy’s Rivervale clinic?
In a report published on 20 July 2024, PerthNow journalist Jessica Evensen said Cindy Wieman had been forced to close the ten-year-old Rivervale clinic after losing about $100,000 because of a lack of funding. Those figures describe Wieman’s account as reported by PerthNow, not an independently audited financial finding.
The report said the closure led to 11 staff redundancies and the discharge of the clinic’s clients. Wieman planned to continue working as a private occupational therapist from home. She said former staff had moved to other jobs and many clients could transition with them, offering a route to continuity of care.
Wieman reflected on the closure: “I’ve put my heart and soul in the company for years and we’ve never had anything but compliments and good feedback from all the people we’ve worked for and this is where it’s led; it just feels like a bit of a waste of a decade.”

How did the 2024 NDIS price limit factor into the closure?
PerthNow connected the clinic’s financial pressure to the NDIA’s annual pricing review. The article said the review, released in June 2024, kept the metropolitan occupational therapy price limit at $193.99 per session for the 2024–25 arrangements. It also reported that the review found billing-rate averages generally mirrored the limits and recommended no structural adjustment or broad indexation on 1 July 2024.
Wieman argued that the limit had to cover much more than an occupational therapist’s pay: “$193.99 sounds really high right … but it’s got to pay for an awful lot of things, like making sure your staff are trained, equipment, assessment and the work that needs to be done to run a practice.” She said she had exhausted savings built over ten years and believed the limit had not kept pace with the cost of living. She also argued for parity with physiotherapy rates, saying clients rely on occupational therapists for day-to-day capacity building. These are her arguments about operating costs and service value, not an independent cost analysis.

What was the NDIA’s response?
An NDIA spokesperson told PerthNow that the review considered feedback from participants and providers alongside market data, research, public consultation and industry engagement. The agency’s stated position was that price limits must balance the scheme’s sustainability with the needs of participants and providers. It also acknowledged that businesses faced economic challenges beyond the disability sector.
The spokesperson said: “It’s important the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits balance the sustainability of the NDIS and ensure the scheme meets the needs of participants and providers.”

Is Purple Patch Therapy still an approved NDIS provider?
As listed on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s provider register, accessed 8 October 2026, PURPLE PATCH THERAPY PTY LTD remains an approved provider, with registration in force until 25 August 2028. The entry includes a Rivervale outlet and registration groups including Therapeutic Supports, Behaviour Support, Support Coordination and assistive-product categories. A registration entry confirms the provider’s status on the register; it does not establish that the former clinic reopened or that its services continued unchanged.
The Australian Business Register also lists the company, ABN 83 633 230 145, as an active Australian private company, active from 2 May 2019, with main business location WA 6109. Legal-entity status does not confirm that the former clinic is operating. The available records do not establish whether Purple Patch Therapy resumed its former clinic operations.
