Public Mobile introduced 4G plans priced at $23 per month for 6GB and $20 per month for 2GB on July 9, 2024, with reports describing them as offers for new activations. They matched Fizz’s Ontario prices at the time. They are historical offers: as of October 8, 2026, Public Mobile’s listed 4G plans start at $22 for 1GB and $24 for 5GB. MobileSyrup, iPhone in Canada, and Public Mobile’s current plan page document the change and the current snapshot.
What Public Mobile introduced in July 2024
On July 9, 2024, Public Mobile added two low-cost 4G plans: $23 per month for 6GB and $20 per month for 2GB. Contemporary reporting said the offers were limited to new activations. The launch was part of a broader set of plan changes, rather than a permanent price guarantee.
- $23 plan: 6GB at 4G speeds up to 100Mbps, unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting, and international texting, according to MobileSyrup’s July 2024 report.
- $20 plan: 2GB at 4G, with unlimited Canada-wide calling and international texting, according to MobileSyrup and iPhone in Canada. MobileSyrup reported that this plan’s price had fallen from $21 and its data allowance from 3GB.
For the $23 and $20 plans, respectively, iPhone in Canada reported monthly equivalents of $22 and $19 with a 90-day subscription. Those were subscription-period equivalents, not the ordinary month-to-month prices; the report does not establish that the same offer remains available today. See the contemporaneous report.
Why the plans were described as matching Fizz
“To match Fizz” referred to a July 2024 Ontario comparison. At that time, Fizz offered the same two combinations—$23 for 6GB and $20 for 2GB—according to MobileSyrup. It describes the competitive context of the launch, not a current price match or proof that either carrier still offers those exact plans.

How the October 2026 Fizz comparison differs
An October 5, 2026 roundup listed Fizz 4G plans at $20 for 1GB, $24 for 5GB, and $28 for 10GB. It also listed higher-data 5G offers and noted that Fizz’s $20–$28 tiers had returned to 4G after being 5G the previous month. These figures are a dated snapshot, not a permanent tariff; Fizz prices and coverage depend on the customer’s coverage selection. See the October comparison.
Fizz describes its service as prepaid, commitment-free, and customizable, and says its prices do not increase unless a customer changes their plan. It also describes automatic data rollover and data gifting for plans with data. Those are carrier statements; review the applicable terms and coverage for the plan selected at signup. Fizz’s site lets customers configure a plan and coverage.

What to compare before switching
The headline price alone does not show whether one carrier’s plan is a better fit. Compare the actual offers shown for your address and account, including:
- Monthly cost and whether it depends on a promotion or a longer subscription period.
- Included data and whether the plan uses 4G or 5G.
- Calling and texting inclusions, including whether international texting is included.
- Coverage in the places you use your phone; Fizz’s plan choices can vary by coverage selection.
- Who can activate the offer, particularly if a price is restricted to new customers.
Public Mobile’s plan page supports eSIM signup and app-based account management. Fizz says a new subscriber can test its service for 15 days with an eSIM, 3GB of data, 100 texts, and 100 minutes while keeping their existing provider. Confirm trial eligibility and terms on Fizz’s current site before relying on those limits.
