PTCL Group’s revenue grew 12% and operating profit rose 216% in the year ended December 31, 2025, yet the Group reported a net loss of PKR 9.7 billion. Those consolidated results are not the same as the performance of PTCL on a standalone basis: the parent company reported PKR 120.1 billion in revenue and PKR 1.4 billion in net profit.
Group results and standalone PTCL results are different
PTCL’s FY2025 reporting covers two scopes. The Group figures combine the consolidated businesses; standalone PTCL figures describe the parent company alone. The measures also answer different questions: revenue is sales, operating profit reflects profit from operations, and net profit or loss is the bottom-line result after other relevant charges and items.
| FY2025 measure | PTCL Group, consolidated | PTCL, standalone |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | Up 12% year over year; the Group release does not state an amount in the cited summary | PKR 120.1 billion, up 12% year over year |
| Operating profit | Up 216% year over year; the Group release does not state an amount in the cited summary | PKR 18.2 billion, up 49% year over year |
| Net result | Loss of PKR 9.7 billion | Profit of PKR 1.4 billion |
The figures are for FY2025, the year ended December 31, 2025. PTCL’s audited FY2025 Directors’ Report, filed with the Pakistan Stock Exchange on April 7, 2026, reports the standalone results and Group growth rates; the issuer’s February 24, 2026 results release reports the Group net loss and its explanation.
Why higher operating profit did not prevent a Group net loss
Operating profit and net profit are separate lines in a company’s results. A sharp improvement in operating profit does not by itself establish that the consolidated business made an overall profit. PTCL attributed the Group’s PKR 9.7 billion net loss primarily to accelerated expected credit loss (ECL) provisioning at Ubank after revisions to Prudential Regulations. That is the issuer’s stated explanation for the Group result.

Standalone PTCL had a separate pension charge
In its standalone results, PTCL disclosed a one-off additional pension liability of PKR 6.9 billion pursuant to a Supreme Court decision. Despite that liability, standalone PTCL reported net profit of PKR 1.4 billion. This pension item is a disclosure about standalone PTCL; it should not be presented as the cause of the separate consolidated Group loss, which PTCL primarily linked to Ubank’s accelerated ECL provisioning.

PTCL completed its acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers on December 31, 2025. However, the FY2025 results release says Telenor Pakistan’s operating results are consolidated from January 1, 2026. The acquisition was completed on the final day of the reporting year, but Telenor’s operating revenue should therefore not be described as a contributor to PTCL’s FY2025 growth.
