The company attributed the decision to a broader global fleet redeployment strategy and said affected guests would receive full refunds and help finding alternative cruises. The total number of passengers affected has not been established.
Which Texas cruises were canceled?
The cancellation applies to the planned Majestic Princess Galveston season running from November 2026 through March 2027. It does not mean Princess canceled every Texas departure on every date. Cruise Industry News reported the company’s announcement in 2025; the Houston Chronicle also covered the cancellation.
The planned Majestic season was to follow the final Galveston voyages then scheduled for Regal Princess, which Travel Weekly reported would operate through its March 15, 2026 departure. That earlier schedule does not establish what Princess will offer in later seasons.
Why did Princess cancel the sailings?
Princess attributed the decision to its broader global fleet redeployment strategy. In its report, Cruise Industry News quoted the company as saying: “Princess Cruises made the difficult decision to cancel all sailings onboard the Majestic Princess from Galveston scheduled between November 2026 and March 2027 as part of our broader global fleet redeployment strategy.” The company also said: “We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the understanding as we work to enhance our global cruise offerings.” Neither statement was attributed to a named individual.

How many sailings and passengers are affected?
Published sailing counts conflict: Cruise Industry News said 17 cruises were planned, while Seatrade Cruise reported 15 canceled sailings. The available reports do not reconcile the difference, so neither number can be presented as definitive.

The number of affected passengers is also unknown. The Houston Chronicle said it was unclear how many passengers were affected. A ship’s stated passenger capacity—reported as 3,560 by Cruise Fever—is not a count of bookings across the canceled season. Capacity cannot establish how many people had reservations or how many would have sailed.
What did Princess say affected guests would receive?
At the time of the announcement, Princess said affected guests would receive full refunds and that it would assist them with alternative cruise options, including other Galveston sailings and Caribbean itineraries. Those were the company’s announced commitments; the reports do not establish whether each refund was completed or each guest rebooked.

For the terms that apply to an individual booking, consult Princess’s passage contract and nonperformance policy, and contact Princess or the travel advisor who made the reservation. The current nonperformance policy says that if Princess cancels a cruise, or delays it for more than three calendar days, a guest who declines an alternative cruise or chooses not to travel on a delayed cruise is entitled to a refund of cruise fare and specified charges. It describes a documentation request due no later than the 180th calendar day after the originally scheduled embarkation; the submission route depends on whether the booking was made directly or through a travel advisor. Check the policy and booking terms applicable to your reservation rather than assuming every detail is unchanged or applies identically.
The passage contract also contains a full-refund provision for cancellations caused by mechanical failure. Princess described this season cancellation as a fleet redeployment decision, not a mechanical failure.

How should you compare a replacement cruise with a refund?
Princess said it was helping guests consider alternatives, but the announcement does not establish that a particular replacement sailing is available or what it would cost. Compare the actual options in writing before deciding:
- Departure date and port: Confirm that the replacement’s date and embarkation city work for you.
- Itinerary and trip length: Check ports, time at sea and the full travel schedule rather than assuming the new cruise matches the canceled one.
- Total cost: Compare the fare and fees, plus any new airfare, hotel, ground transportation or other independent travel costs.
- Refund details: Ask about the amount, form and expected timing of any refund, and which booking terms govern it.
- Travel arrangements already booked: Review cancellation and change terms for separately purchased flights or lodging. The supplied policy does not establish reimbursement for those costs.
If you booked through a travel advisor, ask the advisor to explain the available alternatives and handle the applicable booking route. If you booked directly, contact Princess. Keep written records of the offer you accept, any refund request and the response.

Is Princess leaving Galveston permanently?
The cancellation establishes that the planned Majestic Princess season from November 2026 through March 2027 was canceled; it does not establish a permanent withdrawal from Galveston. Princess’s Galveston destination page describes cruise categories, but the page is not proof that a specific sailing is currently available. Check Princess’s live schedule for dates and departures before making plans.
What about flights to Houston for a replacement cruise?
For a replacement sailing from Galveston, use Princess’s airport timing guidelines for Houston Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental as planning guidance. They do not guarantee that a particular flight connection is safe for your itinerary or promise reimbursement for independently arranged travel.
