Primal Kitchen announced a voluntary recall in April 2024 of its 750 mL avocado oil in glass bottles because the packaging could break and leak. The FDA-posted company announcement covered approximately 2,060 cases; a later Defense Logistics Agency notice says each wholesale case held six bottles. That implies approximately 12,360 bottles, a calculation rather than a bottle count reported directly by FDA.
Which Primal Kitchen avocado oil was recalled?
The recall applies to Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil, 750 mL, packaged in a glass bottle. The company said the issue was isolated to this size and packaging; other sizes, formats and batches were not affected by this packaging issue. The notice described breakage and leakage risk, not contamination of the oil. FDA-posted company announcement, April 2024.
How to check whether your bottle is affected
Check the bottle’s UPC and “Best When Used By” date. An affected bottle has UPC 8-5523200719-4 (also shown as 855232007194) and one of these dates:
- August 19, 2025
- August 20, 2025
- August 21, 2025
The case UPC listed in the notice is 108552320071910000. Match the product size, package type and identifiers rather than relying on the brand or product name alone. FDA-posted company announcement.

Why was the oil recalled?
Primal Kitchen said it noticed leaking in shipping containers while monitoring its warehouse. The concern was that glass bottles could break, causing the oil to spill. The announcement did not report that the oil itself was contaminated.
Where was the recalled product sold?
The company said affected products were sold in the eastern United States, California, and online nationally. “Nationwide” therefore describes the national reach of online sales; the announcement does not provide an exhaustive state-by-state list or name every retailer.

What should you do if you have an affected bottle?
The April 2024 company announcement instructed consumers who purchased an affected product to dispose of it and contact Primal Kitchen at +1 (888) 774-6259, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Because that contact information comes from a 2024 notice, verify the current contact route with Primal Kitchen before relying on it. The Defense Logistics Agency listed the recall as closed in a 2025 notice; that status does not establish that a refund or replacement is still available. In its April 2024 announcement, the company stated: “No consumer injuries or illnesses have been reported to date.” That statement reflects the company’s report at the time of the announcement, not an independent FDA finding.
