Presti uses generative AI to turn a furniture product image into a staged lifestyle scene, potentially reducing the need to transport furniture and crews for every room setup or product variation. It is better understood as a virtual-staging and visual-production tool than a complete replacement for product photography: the output still depends on a credible source image and careful checks for accuracy.
Why furniture photography is expensive
A conventional furniture shoot can involve a location, lighting, stylists, photographers, transport, storage and post-production. Large pieces are difficult to move, and one shoot may not cover every fabric, color, configuration, room style or market a retailer wants to show. E-commerce teams also need crops and formats for product pages, marketplaces, ads and social channels.
In a 2024 interview with TechCrunch, Presti’s CEO described furniture shoots as slow and operationally difficult, and said some brands could spend hundreds of thousands or millions of euros annually on imagery. Those were company-reported examples, not an industry-wide cost benchmark.
What Presti does
The basic workflow starts with a real product image or cutout. The user positions it on a canvas, describes the desired room, lighting and style, generates scene options, refines one and downloads the result. The product image provides the furniture; AI generates much of the surrounding setting. Presti also describes tools for staging, packshots, product variants, close-ups, dimension overlays, infographics, image-to-video and 360-degree spins on its current product site.

Presti’s quick-start documentation says the system generates four options at a time and permits further generations without spending credits until download. Its documented download costs are one credit for 1K, two for 2K, three for 4K and four for 8K. These are documentation-listed rules; the company’s current site describes a different credit model, so confirm the live account terms before budgeting. See the quick-start guide.
The platform’s input requirements include JPG, PNG or WebP files up to 50 MB, at least 1,000 by 1,000 pixels, according to its FAQ. Presti recommends clear lighting, a useful view of the product and consistent camera angles. It warns that it cannot reliably rotate a product captured from an unsuitable angle. Input quality and framing therefore affect whether a generated scene is usable.

How the technology has evolved
In 2024, TechCrunch reported that Presti had retrained and modified Stable Diffusion XL for furniture imagery. The company said generic image models could alter sofa backs, add or remove legs, or mishandle perspective, and reported training on more than 75,000 furniture images at that time. Those details describe the system as reported in 2024, not necessarily its current architecture.
Presti’s current site presents a broader production platform that can choose among different underlying models for tasks such as lifestyle imagery, enhancement, infographics and video. Its documentation describes furniture-focused handling of materials, shadows, scale and perspective. The reviewed public sources do not specify the current training dataset, model architecture, independent evaluation set or error rate. Claims about preserving product details should be tested on the retailer’s own products.

What “replacing a photo shoot” actually means
Presti’s strongest potential use is replacing or reducing some lifestyle-scene production: generating more room settings, campaign variations and catalog imagery from existing product captures. That can spare a company from staging and photographing every combination in a physical location.
It does not mean a brand can skip capturing the product. A reliable packshot, silo image or other accurate reference remains important. Nor does a generated lifestyle scene automatically replace technical packshots, exact material and color references, editorial hero photography or imagery where a real location is part of the creative concept. For dimensions, assembly, distinctive hardware and other factual details, use verified product information rather than letting a plausible-looking image stand in for evidence.

Presti’s site also lists enterprise features such as API access, SSO/SAML, PIM or DAM integration, approval workflows and dedicated support. Treat availability and implementation as items to confirm for the specific plan and contract, not as assumed features of every account.
What the savings claims do—and do not—show
Presti’s documentation claims 95% time saved versus traditional shoots, more than €50,000 in average cost savings per brand and a 24-hour launch from upload to market. Its broader site uses different figures, including up to 90% cost savings and 10x faster production. These are company marketing claims; the reviewed sources do not provide a common measurement method or independent audit. Customer counts also vary: Presti’s current site claims more than 400 retailers and brands, while older company materials and a Y Combinator profile use different counts and definitions.

For a buyer, the useful measure is the cost of an approved, channel-ready image—not the time required to generate a first draft. Count source photography, subscription or credits, failed generations, staff review, retouching, legal review and publishing or integration work. Then compare that total with a conventional shoot, existing CGI or 3D assets, internal editing and other tools.
Presti reported a $3.5 million seed round led by Partech in July 2024, according to TechCrunch; Y Combinator’s company profile also lists a $3.5 million seed round. This is dated company background, not evidence of current financial performance.

- Geometry: Legs, backs, arms, joins or cushions may be added, removed or reshaped.
- Material and color: Wood grain, fabric texture, leather finish, metal reflectivity or upholstery color may not match the saleable SKU.
- Scale and perspective: A piece may look too large or small, sit oddly in the room, or appear to float because its floor contact and shadows are wrong.
- Accessories: Generated cushions, lamps or tables can look like included items unless the scene is checked and, where needed, labeled clearly.
- Consistency: Different prompts or users can produce mismatched camera heights, lighting, crops and room styles; repeated scenes can also feel generic.
- Misleading realism: A convincing image may depict a configuration, room or use that does not exist. Review for product accuracy and consumer clarity, not just visual appeal.
TechCrunch also raised the risk that generated lifestyle scenes could become repetitive and lose some of the originality contributed by location stylists. Presti documents editing tools for replacing unwanted objects and correcting elements such as extra legs; its editing guide explains those tools. Editing can help, but a structurally wrong product image may be better regenerated from a better source than patched.
How to run a meaningful pilot
- Choose representative products. Test 20–50 SKUs across sofas, chairs, tables, beds and case goods, including upholstery, wood, metal, glass and unusual shapes.
- Use controlled inputs. Supply consistent, high-quality source images and request the same room styles, crops and output sizes across the tools being compared.
- Score the outputs. Track geometry, color, materials, scale, shadows, scene realism and brand fit, along with reruns and correction time.
- Calculate approved-image cost. Include source capture, credits or subscription, staff review, retouching, compliance checks and publishing—not just generation.
- Test the business outcome separately. If the goal is better conversion, compare imagery in a controlled product-page test; a faster workflow alone does not prove a sales lift.
- Keep a photography control group. Retain real images for product details the model cannot safely infer and for high-value creative where physical styling matters.
Before a broader rollout, ask about commercial usage rights, data retention, model training on uploaded images, approval history, user roles, export formats, integrations and support. Confirm the terms that apply to the actual plan or contract.

None is universally best on the available evidence. Compare them on the same products, with the same image requirements, and judge fidelity, approved-image cost, consistency, integrations and correction effort.
