The result depends on your purchase price, IonQ’s share price then, and how the company performs. To make the possibilities concrete, a purely hypothetical $50 entry price would buy 100 shares: at assumed 2028 prices of $25, $50, $100, or $150, those shares would be worth $2,500, $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000 before fees and taxes. These are examples, not a forecast or a current quote.
What the 2028 scenarios look like
The table holds the entry price at an assumed $50 per share so the arithmetic is easy to compare. It assumes the $5,000 buys 100 shares, with no fees, taxes, or other adjustments. Neither the entry price nor any 2028 price below is a prediction.

| Hypothetical 2028 share price | Value of 100 shares | Gain or loss versus $5,000 | Total return |
|---|---|---|---|
| $25 | $2,500 | -$2,500 | -50% |
| $50 | $5,000 | $0 | 0% |
| $75 | $7,500 | $2,500 | 50% |
| $100 | $10,000 | $5,000 | 100% |
| $150 | $15,000 | $10,000 | 200% |
The calculation is: future value = $5,000 ÷ entry share price × assumed 2028 share price. For a different entry price, replace $50 in the example with the price you pay. The number of shares is approximate if fractional shares are unavailable, and the calculation does not account for commissions, taxes, or changes in the company’s share count.

Why IonQ’s revenue outlook cannot predict its share price
IonQ’s September 8, 2026 full-year revenue outlook was $450 million to $460 million. That outlook includes SkyWater revenue from the July 31 acquisition date through December 31, and the company said it accounts for estimated intercompany revenue being eliminated. It is not a forecast of earnings, cash flow, valuation, or stock performance.
#1 Best Overall
Context matters when comparing guidance: IonQ’s August 5, 2026 outlook was $280 million to $290 million and explicitly excluded SkyWater contributions. The later range includes partial-year revenue from the acquired business, so the two outlooks should not be treated as a like-for-like increase in IonQ’s underlying sales.
IonQ reported Q2 2026 GAAP revenue of $80.1 million, up 287% year over year. The same results reported an adjusted EBITDA loss of $120.3 million and a GAAP net loss attributable to IonQ of approximately $1.868 billion. The company identified a large fair-value change in warrant liabilities, so that quarter’s GAAP net loss is not a simple measure of recurring operating performance. IonQ also reported $3.0 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and investments as of June 30, 2026, or $2.0 billion pro forma after subtracting cash used to complete the SkyWater acquisition.
Rank #2
Revenue growth can support a higher share price, but it does not guarantee one. Investors’ expectations, the valuation multiple they are willing to pay, financing needs, dilution, and the company’s ability to execute can all change the price. The available figures do not establish a 2028 per-share estimate or a complete peer valuation comparison.
What could move the outcome up or down
Commercial growth and acquisition integration
IonQ’s reported revenue and guidance point to a business pursuing growth, but part of the latest 2026 outlook comes from SkyWater after the acquisition. Whether the combined business can grow and integrate successfully matters; acquisition-derived sales should not be mistaken for proof of organic growth.
Costs, losses, and financing
IonQ’s 2025 Form 10-K reported net losses attributable to IonQ of $510.4 million in 2025, $331.6 million in 2024, and $157.8 million in 2023. The filing describes the business as early-stage, with a limited operating history, continuing-loss expectations, scale-up challenges, and forecasts that may prove incorrect. Cash provides resources, but it does not by itself show that the business will become profitable or that the stock will rise.
Valuation and dilution
A fast-growing company’s stock can still fall if investors lower the valuation multiple they assign to future sales or profits. New share issuance can also dilute existing shareholders’ ownership. The scenario table holds the investor’s 100 shares constant and assumes no effect from dilution; it does not model future financing or estimate how dilution could affect IonQ’s share price.
Rank #4
Technical and execution milestones
IonQ’s September 8 release described a shared roadmap toward commercial-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing. Chairman and CEO Niccolo de Masi called that roadmap an effort that accelerates the company’s timeline and capabilities. This is management’s stated goal, not independent confirmation that the technical, manufacturing, or commercial milestones will be achieved by 2028.

How to adapt the example to your own investment
- Use your actual purchase price. Divide $5,000 by the price per share you expect to pay to estimate how many shares you would own. Account for whole-share limits if your brokerage does not offer fractional shares.
- Choose hypothetical future prices, not a single promised target. Use a range that reflects both downside and upside possibilities. No 2028 share-price target is established by the company’s revenue guidance cited here.
- Calculate each scenario. Multiply your estimated shares by each assumed 2028 price. Compare the result with $5,000 to calculate the dollar gain or loss; divide that amount by $5,000 for the percentage return.
- Make assumptions visible. Note whether your scenarios account for dilution, fees, taxes, or other changes. Revenue forecasts and management roadmaps are uncertain, and IonQ’s September 2026 release cautions that forward-looking statements are subject to risks, uncertainties, and assumptions.
