Pras Michel sued Lauryn Hill and her touring company in federal court in October 2024, accusing them of financial and contractual misconduct tied to Fugees tour business. Hill denied the accusations. Reports say Michel dismissed the lawsuit without prejudice in March 2026; the materials available do not report a ruling on the merits.
What Michel alleged
Michel filed the complaint on October 1, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against Hill and MLH Touring, Inc., which the complaint described as Hill’s wholly owned touring company. The complaint brought claims including fraud, fraud in the inducement, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, accounting, refusal to permit an audit, unjust enrichment and declaratory judgment. Those are claims Michel made, not findings by a court. The complaint

The dispute involved arrangements for Fugees-related touring, including a 2023 tour and plans for a 2024 tour connected to the 25th anniversary of Hill’s solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Michel alleged that contractual terms were unfair, tour finances were handled opaquely and the tours were mismanaged. He also alleged that Hill controlled key business decisions and financial records, and that he was entitled to a larger share of the proceeds. The complaint
Michel’s lawsuit reportedly said Hill rejected a $5 million offer for a Fugees appearance at Coachella because of billing concerns. That figure is an allegation attributed to the complaint, not an independently verified offer. Associated Press coverage The report on the Coachella allegation

How Hill responded
Hill denied Michel’s allegations. The Associated Press reported that she called the suit “baseless” and “full of false claims and unwarranted attacks.” She said Michel’s complaint left out alleged overpayments and loans totaling $3 million, and that the 2023 tour was planned as a celebration of her solo album and would have gone ahead with or without the Fugees. These are Hill’s statements; the reviewed accounts do not independently establish the disputed financial history. Associated Press coverage
What happened to the 2024 tour
The planned 2024 tour was called off three days before it was due to begin, according to reporting on the dispute. The parties’ explanations and the complaint’s account of the tour business remain contested; the reported cancellation does not by itself establish that either side breached an agreement. Did Michel drop the lawsuit?
Yes. Reports published in March 2026 say Michel moved on March 11 to dismiss the action without prejudice. The reported terms were that each party would pay its own expenses, costs and attorneys’ fees. A later report published April 30 also described the suit as dismissed without prejudice. Associated Press coverage Coverage of the dismissal
“Without prejudice” means the dismissal was not a decision resolving the truth of the allegations. The reviewed reporting does not show a ruling on the merits or provide a primary court docket entry with further procedural detail. The dismissal therefore should not be read as a court finding for Michel or Hill.
