SalarySport estimates Port Vale’s 2024/25 wage bill at £76,000 a week, or about £3.9 million for the year. That is a third-party estimate, not a player-pay total published in the club’s accounts announcement. Port Vale confirmed that player wage costs rose as it strengthened its squad in League Two, then won promotion back to League One at the first attempt. The available figures do not support a reliable ranking against every League Two club.
What was Port Vale’s wage bill in 2024/25?
SalarySport’s archived 2024/25 page estimates Port Vale’s wage bill at £76,000 per week and approximately £3.9 million per year. It says its estimate covers wages for 31 players and identifies goalkeeper Joe Gauci as the highest earner at £10,000 a week. These are SalarySport estimates, not figures confirmed by Port Vale as audited player wages. SalarySport’s archived Port Vale 2024/25 wage page does not establish whether the estimate includes bonuses, employer costs, or wages shared or subsidised by other clubs.

What do Port Vale’s accounts say about player wages?
Port Vale’s announcement about accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025 says player wage costs increased during the reporting year as the club strengthened its squad. It does not give an exact player-wage total. The announcement describes the financial effects of competing in League Two after relegation, including lower income, reduced solidarity funding and fewer cup fixtures than the previous year. Chief Executive Matt Hancock said: “These accounts reflect the expected financial impact of competing in League Two following relegation the previous season, alongside reduced solidarity funding and fewer cup fixtures compared to the year before.” Port Vale’s official announcement also says the owners continued to fund investment in the squad.
How does Port Vale’s wage bill compare with the rest of League Two?
The evidence available does not establish a complete, like-for-like 2024/25 ranking. SalarySport’s current League Two wage table is a different-period snapshot: as accessed on 8 October 2026, it lists Port Vale at £109,025 per week and Salford City at £131,715. Those figures should not be compared directly with Port Vale’s archived 2024/25 estimate of £76,000 per week as though they were from the same season. SalarySport’s current League Two wage table changes over time.

SalarySport’s accounts aggregation is not a substitute for a same-season player-wage table. It reports accounts for 17 of 24 League Two clubs and staff-cost figures for 10. The latest filed years differ between clubs, and staff costs cover more than players’ wages. SalarySport’s League Two club accounts data therefore cannot show where Port Vale ranked among all 24 clubs for 2024/25 player pay.
Why are wage comparisons difficult?
A meaningful comparison needs figures with matching periods and definitions. An annual accounts figure may cover a financial year rather than a football season, and total staff costs are broader than player wages. A weekly estimate may also treat bonuses, employer costs, or shared and subsidised wages differently. The available sources do not resolve those details for SalarySport’s Port Vale estimate, so its figure is useful as an indication of scale, not a precise audited comparison.
