Value Research reports that 63% of complaints disposed of on India’s Bima Bharosa platform in FY26 were decided in policyholders’ favour, citing an IRDAI consultation paper. That is an aggregate outcome reported by a secondary source—not a prediction that an individual complaint will succeed.
What the reported 63% measures
In an article published on 10 October 2026, Value Research says an overview paragraph in a recent Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) consultation paper on distribution reported that 63% of complaints disposed of on Bima Bharosa in FY26 were decided in the policyholder’s favour. The figure concerns complaints disposed of on that platform during that fiscal year; it is not stated as a general success rate for every insurance dispute.

The underlying consultation paper was not located, so the reported denominator, outcome definitions, and complaint count could not be checked against the primary document. The 63% should therefore be understood as Value Research’s account of the paper, rather than an independently verified figure.

Value Research attributes two more outcome rates to the same IRDAI consultation paper:
#1 Best Overall
| Venue | Reported policyholder-favourable outcome | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Bima Bharosa | 63% | Complaints disposed of in FY26, as reported by Value Research. |
| Insurance ombudsman | 75% | Value Research reports this rate but does not establish the fiscal-year context, denominator, or case population. |
| Consumer forums and courts | 54% | Value Research reports this rate but does not establish the fiscal-year context, denominator, or case population. |
These percentages are not enough to rank the venues. The available account does not show whether they use the same definitions, time periods, or kinds of cases. Their underlying counts and methodology are also not established. A higher reported rate at one venue does not prove that it is a better route for a particular dispute.
Reported grievance volumes rose between FY23 and FY25
Value Research also reports 78,347 general-insurance grievances in FY23 and 1,37,361 in FY25, saying about 68% of the FY25 grievances were claim-related. These figures have not been checked against the original data. They indicate a reported increase in grievance volume, but do not establish why it happened, how grievances compare with the number of policies, or whether claim handling improved or worsened.

What this means if your claim was denied or reduced
The aggregate figures do not tell you the odds for your own claim. They do not establish how a complaint like yours would be classified or decided, and they cannot substitute for checking your policy terms and the reasons for the insurer’s decision.

Dhirendra Kumar, Value Research’s founder and chief executive and author of its First Page column, recommends: “So if you have been denied a claim, or given a paltry one, you must complain.” That is his recommendation, not official IRDAI guidance. The reported outcome rates support taking a complaint seriously; they do not guarantee a favourable decision or provide a step-by-step filing procedure.
