Perth’s Channel 7 Telethon had reached a reported live tally of $48.4 million with half an hour remaining in its 2021 broadcast, according to The West Australian’s report published on 17 October 2021. That was a near-close figure, not a confirmed final total: donations were still coming in.
How much had Telethon raised with half an hour left?
The West Australian reported that the live tally had reached $48.4 million after Crown contributed $2.5 million. The broadcast still had half an hour to run, and donations were continuing, so the figure describes the amount reported at that moment rather than a verified final result.
How did it compare with the previous record?
The same report put the 2020 Telethon record at $46.3 million and described 2021 as the 12th consecutive year the fundraising drive had beaten the previous year’s record. These are figures and a record claim reported contemporaneously by The West Australian, not independently audited totals.
What fundraising activity helped drive the total?
Matt Fuller’s six-hour spin cycle
Matt Fuller led 30 cyclists in a six-hour spin-cycle fundraiser at the Telethon Family Festival. The effort raised $225,000, and two community bikes were available for members of the public to join in. The report identified Fuller as founder of Fuller Fitness Subiaco and said he had taken on fitness challenges for Telethon since 2001.
