For 2025–26, PerthNow reported proposed council-rate increases of 3.5% in the City of Bayswater, 5% in the Town of Victoria Park and 4.5% for most ratepayers in the City of Vincent. Later official material confirms Vincent’s 4.5% increase for the majority of ratepayers. The sources available here do not verify the final residential percentage for Bayswater or Victoria Park.
What the reported increases were
These figures concern local council property rates in three inner Perth local government areas—not interest rates or a national tax. PerthNow’s 22 May 2025 report described the figures below as proposed increases for the 2025–26 financial year. Their status is not identical: later Vincent material confirms the increase for most ratepayers, while the final residential outcomes for Bayswater and Victoria Park are not established by the sources available here.

| City of Bayswater | 3.5% | Proposed increase reported by PerthNow. Council minutes record adoption of the 2025–26 budget and rates-setting resolutions on 1 July 2025, but the minutes material does not establish the final residential percentage. | PerthNow cited a 2024–25 average residential bill of $1,477 and said the proposed increase would add about $1 a week. This was a proposal-based example, not a verified final bill. |
| Town of Victoria Park | 5% | Proposed increase reported by PerthNow. The final adopted residential increase is not verified by the sources available here. | Not stated in the cited material. |
| City of Vincent | 4.5% | Proposed for most categories in PerthNow’s report; the City later confirmed 4.5% for the majority of ratepayers. The City’s differential-rates notice separately proposed 25% for vacant residential properties. | The City estimated the 4.5% increase would mean $73.25 a year, or $1.41 a week, for a household in the majority-ratepayer group. |

What Vincent’s figures mean for different properties
Most ratepayers
The City of Vincent’s 2025 budget message states that the 4.5% increase applied to the majority of ratepayers. Its household equivalent was $73.25 annually, or $1.41 weekly. That is the City’s published example for the majority-ratepayer increase, not a universal bill amount for every property.

Vacant residential properties
Vincent’s proposed differential-rates notice set out a separate 25% proposed increase for vacant residential properties. This category should not be folded into the 4.5% figure for the majority of ratepayers. The figure is described as proposed in the notice; the available material does not establish the final amount charged to every vacant residential property.

Bayswater
The 3.5% figure was reported as a proposal. Bayswater’s 1 July 2025 council minutes establish that the 2025–26 budget and rates-setting resolutions were adopted, but the minutes material reviewed does not establish the exact final percentage change for residential rates. The reported $1-a-week illustration is based on the proposal and the cited 2024–25 average bill, so it should not be treated as a confirmed increase on a final 2025–26 bill.
Victoria Park
The 5% figure was reported as a proposal. The final adopted residential increase is not verified by the sources available here, so it cannot be presented as a confirmed final rate change.
How to use these figures for your own bill
A council-wide percentage or average household example may not tell you the increase for a particular property. Check the rates notice or adopted rate schedule for the relevant council and property category before estimating your bill. For Vincent, distinguish the majority-ratepayer figure from the separate vacant-residential proposal; for Bayswater and Victoria Park, do not assume the reported proposal was the final residential outcome.
