Perth City Council agreed on 26 March 2024 to continue free night parking under the City of Perth Parking Night Rate, with a comprehensive review due in April 2025. That was a temporary decision, not a permanent guarantee: Council approved a $5 night rate for off-street car parks from 31 March 2025. Certain on-street bays remained free, subject to their signs and restrictions.
What Council decided in March 2024
On 26 March 2024, the City of Perth Council agreed to amend its 2023/24 fees and charges schedule to keep the City of Perth Parking Night Rate free, with a comprehensive review to be presented to Council in April 2025. The resolution did not promise free parking beyond that review. The separate offer of three hours free on weekends and public holidays at the Cultural Centre, His Majesty’s and Pier Street car parks was to remain unchanged. When the free off-street offer ended
At its 25 February 2025 meeting, Council approved removing free night parking in all off-street car parks and introducing a $5 flat rate from 6pm, effective 31 March 2025, subject to statutory public notice. Opening times, terms and exceptions vary by location. Check the City’s current parking information and the signs at the car park or bay before leaving your vehicle. Do not assume that every on-street bay is free after 6pm; the City describes free night parking only in certain bays. In its February 2025 meeting update, the City said works would remove 900 parking bays at the Concert Hall and Queens Garden car parks, necessitating the return of a flat $5 night-time fee. How to interpret the change
- For the 2024 decision: free night parking continued under the City of Perth Parking Night Rate, pending a review planned for April 2025.
- From 31 March 2025: the City approved a $5 night fee in off-street car parks, with hours and exceptions dependent on the location and car-park type.
- For on-street bays: some remained free at night, but not all. Follow the posted sign and any time limit or other restriction.
