Avolta’s Perth Airport duty-free refurbishment covered four stores across Terminals 1 and 3, with the latest works focused on Terminal 1 Departures and Arrivals. The project draws on Perth’s local identity through design inspired by the Noongar Six Seasons, alongside niche fragrance, whisky and locally themed products. Avolta’s concession runs through 2031; Perth Airport’s July 2026 update later reported more than 100 new brands in the expanded T1 International duty-free offer.
What changed, and when
The transformation unfolded in stages rather than as a single new concession announcement:
- 22 July 2024: Avolta announced that it had renewed and extended its Perth Airport duty-free concession through 2031. It described a planned footprint of nearly 3,000 m² across four stores and previewed a T1 Departures walkthrough, as well as T1 and T3 International locations, Clean Beauty, a local marketplace and sustainable design measures. - 22 October 2025: Avolta announced the newly refurbished portfolio across four stores in Terminals 1 and 3. It said the latest upgrades were in T1 Departures and Arrivals. Avolta’s 2025 refurbishment announcement.
- 7 July 2026: Perth Airport reported a wider T1 International food, beverage and retail refresh, including 14 new or revitalised outlets. In that precinct update, the airport said Perth Duty Free had expanded its T1 International footprint and offer, adding over 100 brands. Perth Airport’s July 2026 update.
The figures describe different things: Avolta’s nearly 3,000 m² refers to the announced concession footprint across four stores, while Perth Airport’s 14 outlets count the broader T1 International precinct refresh—not just Avolta’s duty-free stores.
How the stores bring Perth into the design
Avolta says the design takes inspiration from the Noongar people’s Six Seasons: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. The operator describes each season as represented in a different store section through imagery, colour, light and materials. Avolta also created a Perth-specific version of its Exploring retail concept. Its 2025 announcement describes packaging by a local artist featuring Perth landmarks, with products made using locally sourced Australian ingredients. The 2024 concession announcement had previewed a local marketplace of sustainably sourced products and a Clean Beauty range.
Shopping concepts highlighted by Avolta
Haute Parfumerie
In its October 2025 announcement, Avolta called the curated niche-fragrance selection Australia’s first Haute Parfumerie. Perth Airport’s July 2026 precinct update later confirmed an Avolta Haute Parfumerie concept in T1 International. The airport’s update establishes the concept in that precinct, but neither announcement provides a complete live list of its brands.

Avolta highlighted its World of Whiskies as part of the refurbished offer. The announcements name the concept but do not publish a current product inventory.
Local products and Clean Beauty
The announced offer includes locally themed products and the Exploring concept’s Perth-specific packaging. Clean Beauty and a local marketplace appeared in Avolta’s 2024 plans; the later releases do not confirm that every element remains unchanged in the current stores.

What the passenger figures do—and do not—show
In the 2024 announcement, Perth Airport Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove said the airport handled more than 4.34 million international passengers in FY24, defined there as July 2023 through June 2024. That figure provides context for the concession renewal, not a count of duty-free shoppers or a forecast of sales.
Perth Airport’s July 2026 release anticipated over 50,000 travellers on peak days during the upcoming winter school holidays. This was a forecast for peak travel days, not a reported passenger result.

Why the concession runs through 2031
The renewed term gives Avolta a long-running role in Perth Airport’s duty-free retail, with four stores and an announced footprint of nearly 3,000 m². Freda Cheung, Avolta’s President & CEO APAC, said in July 2024: “Our goal is to deliver a dynamic and customized retail experience that captures the diversity and energy of Perth, tailored to travelers that visit the airport.” That was the operator’s stated aim at the time of the contract announcement, rather than an independently verified assessment of results.
